"Great Men" by Eric Wayne Flynn

"Great Men"

I see great men

A delusioned bunch

Of no particular race

Just a mut within the mud

Dealt a shitty hand

Dealing with the deal

Letting it ride

One ticket for this trip

It keeps going round

Feel the spinning, flat on my back, down on the ground

Brown n black earth under me

Sinking in the dirt I drown

Into the abyss

To clean up the mess

This state that we made

Now

We must own it

Our soul possession

Given by God

Gift wrapped in guilt

Yes, life, we know it as burden

Built up by "great men"

This dangerous escapade, devils and sin, clawing for what lay within

That; for which he had

Just a little light

A crack of the sun

That glimmer of hope

To escape

The dark beneath and the dark beyond

To fly higher, then higher, and higher into the arms, and never be let go

All of us, each and every, equipped with their own cross

Can ye carry that heavy load, the weight of the world, within our hands

Holding up the clouds

White puffs accenting the sun, in the sky for some fun

To see that enjoyable sight

To walk and be thankful for an achievement of the highest ground

Way above the mortal, that superficial ceiling of glass

To want for no more than love

How can that be?

And so we sow

And so it goes

And so we sow

And we reap, a field of flesh

A dark sea of suffering and pain

Rivers of blood, winding veins leading to the source

The heart of the matter, giveth way unto the soul

The gift of your existence

A fresh breath

A power to fuel great men

Interesting poem all right. Seems like you are looking at God's show as it plays itself out. Cool.

Thanks for the visit Dana, I always love when my writing is enjoyed and consumed and within the agreement and acceptance of others that hold the same ideas and beliefs. It is people like ourselves that bridge hope and light.

Interesting read Eric. I love the part:

and so we sow and so it goes and so we sow:

we mostly sow to the flesh and not the spirit.

      reaping corruption and pain.

Hi Jodah, this is a hodge podgy mixed bag of thoughts and feelings from many perspectives, but as always stemming from one main thought. A mix of God, the devil, mankinds constant battle for control of power, an inner war inside our minds, plus more. It's all over the place, like the rivers, but it has one source. Thanks for visit.

      That was a great poem.

Thank you for writing and sharing it.

I especially like the last bit:

      And so we sow

      And so it goes

      And so we sow

And we reap, a field of flesh

A dark sea of suffering and pain

Rivers of blood, winding veins leading to the source

The heart of the matter, giveth way unto the soul

      The gift of your existence

      A fresh breath

A power to fuel great men

      Beautifully written.

      Namaste

What an interesting write Eric. This makes me think of Icarus flying towards the sun until his wings begin to melt......"great men" also makes me think of the saying "behind every great man is an even greater woman". I had to put that in because 8th March was International Women's Day. :)

      Good poem.
