Grounded Gypsy

In the middle of life’s adventures
Following the North Wind
Suddenly, it turned South
I followed the only road left to travel
Settled my soul into this place I call home
The music that sets my soul alight
Smiles that make my spirit soar
Love that binds me to hearts so pure
Stars that lull to sleep each night
this chained body, unable to roam
Yet I shed tears for places I long to see
The Gypsy’s heart longing to be free
Above cliffs with waves crashing on rocky shores below
In Silent meadows of flowers between my mountains
Ancient cities where ruins cry out stories of centuries past
All those dreams I have still in my heart to run and run
Toward beaches of pink sand floating in crystal green seas
Hot jungles wrapping treasures of lost villages of ancient man
Time is neither friend nor foe to me
Hope is the same; for one window to open, a door must close
And neither is a comfort to me tonight here by the raging fire
In the flames, I can see forever
So like liquid heat it seems in its center, burning orange and gray
Yellow and orange flames consume the black wood
While white and gray coals lay beneath unaffected
By the falling rain
Like tears cascading all around
The heat surrounding me, I remain dry and warm
In the same place, for hours
Staring into the embers, no wiser
But trying to settle this wild Gypsy’s soul
