Growing Old With Grace

Growing Old With Grace

As the years slip swiftly by
and life imprints its hue and cry,
in spite of all I might decry...
I will grow old with grace.

The truth is told within the glass..
Age is nothing, if not crass...
and as I join the senior class,
I will grow old with grace.

Though I may yearn for days of old,
Time cares not, and marches bold...
Its wear and tear to take ahold,
yet, I will grow old with grace.

Bones that once were strong and spry,
now creak and ache in protest, wry.
Though, mind and body ever vie,
still, I will grow old with grace.

I will cherish each moment's gift,
spending love that knows not thrift...
to peacefully sail on heaven's drift,
And, thus, grow old with grace.

Awesome poem which resonates with me very well at this point in my life as I tumbled over 40. I remember thinking at 30 it was terrible, oh what I'd give to have it back. But now I look forward to 50 and more.

I see life teaches us something new and more valuable every year and I'm excited to see where it takes me.

duffsmom, I struggle with it, too, especially of late. Thank you for your honest and sincere response. Your comment was an important read for me!

A poem has not affected me this much in a very long time. Beautifully written but also very rich in something much deeper. Aging is something I am struggling with and this poem was an important read for me. Thank you.

Brilliantly written tnderhrt123, a hub that I can so relate too now, that my bones have started to creak and groan whenever I try to move. At least we have gotten through the a lot of the times when we have been able to say afterwards, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!!!

Simply brilliant embraced in time gone by to leave us growing older yet in Grace. Dignity and optimism invigorates the soul.

Do not fear twilight years, be of good health and cheer and life is but a walk in the garden of beauty, stopping to smell the flowers and feel their radiance. Lovely tender poem, enjoyed it very much. Hugs

Christina, I am just so grateful to have come out of the cloud...I will go read your hub "From Old Age to Spirit New" when I finish here...for that is indeed how I feel today...that I have come from "old age to spirit new"! I appreciate you, Girl!

bb, your comment made me smile...I have just realized that I have not been called from my grave to return to it today or tomorrow...or even next week...and my focus is shifting as we speak. So not to worry, my sweet friend...I love you for your thoughts and presence!

      My friend Tender.

My heart reaches out to you as each day I too feel the weight of time pressing, so I'll not scold you for you thoughts of old age or inevitable ends, but I will tell you something you already know - life is a gift, every minute, every second, and mind you this, science is racing forward as we speak, we do not know of and there is no inevitability. We, I cherish you here with us, as do your sons, I'm sure, so how about we focus on our "living with grace" my friend.

      Much love,

      Will.

This is so cool and beautiful! I am glad to support you in the attitude of growing old. I have at least 16 years of taking care of the elderly, and now I help take care of my parents. This should be linked to my hub, "From Old Age to Spirit New". I wrote it about an elderly gentleman who became my friend, but the relationship ended when his Alzhiemer's made him irritable, and he no longer wanted to see me. We have to be aware of the changes of the mind and hopefully, or Spiritual self can overcome those changes.

Spirit Whisperer, the voice of reason you are! It will take me a bit to discard all of the thoughts that have cluttered this head and heart for so long...You make so darn much sense. I have been longing for death so long that it just seems to be natural...and that is the natural direction of my thoughts...gotta put up a "No thoroughfare" sign!!! and embrace "living" thoughts!!! I am such a "Work in Progress"...! No more growing old with grace...on to Living with grace...maybe the beginning of the "Grace" series...smile...now there's a thought! Lots of love!

People used to live for hundreds of years because their belief system was different to ours today. Growing old with grace is just another cop out. Live life to the fullest because you are as young or as old as you "feel."

Your "gracefully growing old" thoughts create your feelings and your feelings create your age. Act your age and reclaim your childhood!Life is a game learn to play!

Here is a quote from one of my favourite Science teachers of all time Nobel Prize Winning Richard Feynman:

"There is nothing in biology yet found that indicates the inevitability of old age. This suggests to me that it is not at all inevitable and that it is only a matter of time before biologists discover what it is that is causing us the trouble." Thank you for getting me to say all that. Love and hugs great soul.
