Grumpy

Grumpy

Grumpy was a gator
at the pond across the street,

an ostentatious fellow
who had an appetite for meat.

Grumpy was the silent type
he wasn't much for talk...

rather than conversation
he preferred to walk the walk.

And he was always hungry,
for he had a hollow leg...

He was a native poacher,
not inclined or prone to beg.

Now, Grumpy was the moody sort,
not much to socialize...

and liked to isolate each day
an element of surprise...

He lurked within the waters
of the friendly little pond...

and often went unnoticed
until he would abscond...

with a meaty little morsel
of an unsuspecting snatch,

vanishing to savor
his tasty, squirmy catch!

I used to go a walking
along that friendly little shore...

Until I saw a notice that was
posted on my door.

For I would be a delicate and
more than tasty treat

and Grumpy would be tantalized
by my ample, tender meat...

So here I sit and tell this tale
a warning with a clue...

If you dare to wander there,
Grumpy could eat you!

I haven't met Grumpy face to face, but I'm told he is about. Logan and I don't venture over there often, I'm not up for being an 'ordeurve! Thanks, Max!

no problem. Deep fry some gator, add some cajun seasoning and dip it in shrimp sauce for a tasty snack :-)

Maggie-May, I'm not overly fond of gators either, but they are a fact of life here in Florida...so I don't go to the friendly little pond across the street any more...gator-wrestling is NOT on my "bucket list"!

Nice poem,...gators, scary..I've watched a few documentaries about them and seen their behaviours on the discovery channel, not my cup of tea to live anywhere near them, best of wishes & be safe,

Spirit Whisperer, Thanks! I liked to take my grandson for walks over to that little pond...but my son informed me that a notice was posted about a gator over there and I won't be visiting Grumpy any time soon! Florida has its share of gators...and I have no desire to feed Grumpy today! Hugs!

That lightened the mood. Reminds me of an old man who used to keep our ball when it went into his garden when we played as kids.

No, star, it wasn't your old man...actually it is a true story, there is a pond across the street from where I live with my son and he told me about a notice posted about a gator over there...and I was told to avoid the pond or be dinner! I just gave him a name! Thanks for the visit! Hugs!
