Hail Texas!

Took all that Santa Ana held

North of the Rio Grande

Travis and his brave men

Took up arms to stop Santa Ana

Remember the Alamo!

Hail Texas!

Austin and Houston raised your flag

Made us all proud to be Texians

A vast, wild, and beautiful territory

Carved from the Spanish hand

Remember the Alamo!

Hail Texas!

Black gold run through your veins

It flows all directions under land

Wildcatters popped the derrick

The chase for oil began

Remember the Alamo!

Hail Texas

Your boundaries seem so endless

Rivers, lakes, forest, deserts, mountains, coasts

People find their destiny and fate here

Raise their families well and true

Remember the Alamo!

Hail Texas!

Longhorn steer run your grasslands

Mustang roam your range

Mesquite tress grow down by the creek

The rattler, centipede and scorpion crawl

Remember the Alamo!

Hail Texas!

Men like Wes Hardin rode your dusty trails

Guns-blazin’, Hell-raisin’, Mad-dog Texian

Ready to stand and fight hell bent for leather

Texas born and Texas proud

Remember the Alamo!

Hail Texas!

The Lone Star furls and waves

Marking your birthright for all to see

Texas hearts bursting with pride

Texas-born and Texas-bred

Remember the Alamo!

Hail Texas!

Thank you, Bekka. Like I told another friend who is in a writer's rut today, you have to release your mind and left the story find you. Sometimes we get focused on an idea but the story just won't come...lay that one aside. Take a clean sheet of paper and write one sentence on it. From there...the story should find you if it has merit! WB

@SilverGenes...A roll it is...this one took all of ten minutes to come together. Ah but soon I will suffer the ravages of writer's block...there's no dodging it! WB

@Maven101...Thank you, Larry. Not being native-born, all I can say is "I got here as fast as I could". Glad you enjoyed it! WB

Come on in! We're still taking applications and we still have the Alamo just in case we happen to fall back into insurrection! Thanks, Poppy! WB

Three kinds of people in this world. Those who were born in Texas, those who weren't and those who wished they were.

      "Texas hearts bursting with pride

      Texas-born and Texas-bred"

Only Texans really understand this statement. Great job. Cheers.

yes sir if I looked that good in a hat I would be John Wayne if I wrote that good I would be Townes Van Zandt and if I painted that good I would be Frederic Remington.

epigramman...that is about the greatest compliment ever bestowed on me and one I will have to work long and hard to deserve. But I shall try! Don't give up on the hat...you just have to find the right one and then get someone who knows to put the right roll in it. Get an expensive one, they work best! Thanks again! WB

Great hub! Celebrating the 175 year anniversary of independence from Mexico this month! Have you been to the Alamo gift shop lately? Rifle pens, shotgun shell shot glasses, bibs (Remember the Alamo AND my supper), candy-shaped Alamos, coonskin caps, and more! I'm heading to the San Jacinto Monument in just a few weeks -- more history and fun!

@Truckstop Sally...Thank you. This was some of my early stuff when I first begin to try my hand at poetry. Glad you liked it! WB
