Haiku - Love Through the Years: Chapter 1
by
Dr. Darryl Winer
We met as children
Kindred spirits, hand in hand
She a year younger
The games of childhood
Laughter, comfort, contentment
Built the foundation
Confidences shared
The joy of each other’s touch
Secrets to explore
Innocent, naive
Inadvertent caresses
Kindling the fire
Inexplicable
Hard to tell, something’s amiss
Aching when apart
The sense of knowing
Communication by heart
Without words or thoughts
Sweet, gentle kisses
Confusing, without intent
Expressing chaste love
In short fleeting months
Gentle becomes insistent
Intoxicating
Her hands draw him near
Her mouth eagerly seeks his
Her arms welcome him
The heat of her breath
Moist lips urging him forward
His face curves to hers
Hands glide down her back
Her body leaps to his touch
Sharing urgency
Not knowing what’s next
Angular with one purpose
Demand they both sense
Silently pleading
Self-conscious and awkward hands
Expose frenzied flesh
The cradle of man
Tension, sweet and unknown ere
Lost in sensation
Unimagined heat
Bodies, wet, undivided
Moments in a blaze
Even breaths again
Faces hidden in damp hair
Traces of scarlet
A unique knowing
Pristine, sparkling awareness
Ripening young love
