Happiness is... (a poem)

Happiness is

seeing a camel thorn tree silhouetted

against a misty sky wedded

to creatures known

and unknown.

Happiness is

watching a fighting fit tortoise,

unaware of justice and injustice,

crossing the road bravely

and safely...

Happiness is

watching a hadeda ibis -

an ex-libris of sadness in extremis -

taking off for a destiny

not subjected to scrutiny.

Happiness is

making choices not knowing the end

beyond the first bend –

Happiness is true

just being with you.

Ohhhh Saddle, now you've pulled my tears. Meeting Dave was certainly the best thing ever happened to me. He restored my trust in people, especially in men, and in love. We really enjoyed a lifetime of happiness in only 7 weeks. But we had to face reality; there are so many reasons why people can not move permanently to another country, and life is really too short to mourn the ‘what could have been’. Both Dave and I are realists in spite of our romantic hearts. So we are living on, best friends forever, treasuring our memories, keeping contact… Maybe we will get another opportunity to see each other again. Just thinking about such an opportunity makes me extremely happy. Thanks so much, big brother, for wishing this for me. May your ESP soon prove itself as a fait accompli. Hugs and best wishes galore for you as well.

You are both such a beautiful couple and I pray your romantic hearts will find each other again, no matter how many miles may be separating you both for now. Hearts have a way of finding their home. You will have it all over again, my ESP is working:-)

Thanks, Denise. I'm looking forward to a second holiday with David, next year in August. I wish he could've stayed forever with me, but unfortunately we are bound by too many responsibilities in our distinct countries. In the meanwhile we live in Skype and Gmail and Facebook. What a life :)))) But we do make the best of it.

marcoujor – So nice to have you as a friend here too, and also to know you like my poetry. I like the inspiration I get and give from/to fellow-writers. True writers are normally loners, thinking much too much and too deep to the liking of ‘normal’ people - they don’t easily find the company they want/need in their vicinities. So I really appreciate my friends here and in NF. I just wish I could spend more time here and there. Take care! Yes, we’ll see each other back and forth.

*** prasetio30 – Happiness is indeed the product of an open mind and pure heart. The main reason for unhappiness is when we are narrow-minded and selfish and refuse to accept reality, including the personalities of others. Thanks for your vote! Take care.

*** Sa`ge – Nice to see you again! Hugs :))

*** Genna East – Thanks. Our holiday came to an end. David is back in England. Now we’re count the days to our next holiday. In the meanwhile we’ll skype-skype-skype.

*** Erin LeFey – Those animals seems to be unaware of danger, but their senses are working radars. The merest strange sound will send them running/flying. I guess we humans are too curious or too inclined to hope for the best to be like them. Take care!

*** acaetnna – oh, I knew you would be able to recognize the incredible wonder of my relationship with David. We both need a lot of space and freedom to be happy and contented. Living ‘for ever after’ together under one roof is not our idea of happiness. Oh, I wish he lived in the same town as I... but.... perhaps the distance between SA and England is the perfect space for our love to grow and last. Time will be our teacher. However, today I’m still struggling to come to terms with his physical absence. All kinds of withdrawal symptoms are always painful, but, thank heavens, not fatal.

*** kennynext - Of course! And the best of all: we have the power to choose whether we want to be happy or sad. It takes only one thought to be either happy or sad. Take care!

Martie, how wonderful to hear from you and to hear of your connection with South Africa. I'm so happy that you and David have also found that connection. Peace flows throughout this piece in the animals seemingly unaware of any dangers around them. Blessings to you, my friend.

*** goprisca – I do feel lucky, though not when I see how uncomplicated and happy people without these skills are. I can but only accept the fact that I’m part of the kind that think and write poetically – and I have to develop myself to the best I can be. Thank you so much for reading and commenting.

*** acaetnna – I’m so glad you came by to read my poem. You will enjoy my news even though it could be classified as sad by people who are not able to appreciate gems hidden in reality. Many poems and articles coming up soon - thanks to David who really inspired me to refresh some of my thoughts and views.

*** saddlerider1 – Oh my word! Now that you’ve drew my attention to it – you and David indeed look like brothers. Now I am an example of women who tend to fall in love with a man who reminds them of a beloved brother. Thanks for all the best wishes and hugs. The same from me to you and yours.

@ ahostagesituation, Chatkath, Erin LeFey, Wayne Brown – I agree with all of you and especially with you, Wayne. I also have to add that the fact that happiness – which is one of the most precious emotions humans can experience – is mostly momentary, short-termed and time-bounded. Life and all its surprises and complications will never allow humans to be ‘happy forever after’. I guess this is why a Hereafter in Heaven is such a profitable product for sale.

Take care. I’ll be back by the end of May.

*** Abie Taylor – Welcome in my corner! I hope you will enjoy my other hubs as well.

*** flying_fish – Nice to meet you! And thank you so much for leaving me your opinion.

*** SilentReed – how nice of you to leave me such a kind comment. Yes, you who were with me since I arrived in HubPages are definitely witnesses of one of the greatest phenomena in life: people are people because of people. All changes in me were instigated by people, and I thank God for all the opportunities I have - to meet wonderful people such as you and all others. I believe the one or three ‘devils’ that were in my life was just meant to establish the extreme level of joy I now have the privilege to enjoy.

*** thougtforce – it is so good to know you are able to see and feel my joy! I’ll catch UP with ALL your writings at the end of this wonderful time with David.

*** Marcella Glenn – I’m so glad you think so.

*** drbj – Thanks for your beautiful comment. Yes, I can see a lot of luck was present in our pasts, and I actually thank my falling stars because I’ve met David (and you and all the rest as well).

*** Nellieanna – What else with a wonderful roll model as you?

*** annaw – Thanks so much for your kind comment. I really enjoy sharing my current joy with everybody, much more than I’ve ever enjoyed sharing my sorrow. It seems to me I’ve always taken joy for granted and not worthy to share with others. At last I must admit to myself that my tendency as a writer to share only my sorrow falls in the category of severe neuroticism. Thanks to David I’m regaining balance I did not even realized I have lost.

*** Christopher Price – I appreciate your opinion and agree wholeheartedly with you :))) Appearing in public with David makes me feel like a teenage girl dating the captain of the 1st rugby team. Some people may regard this emotion as silly and childish, especially when one experiences it after the age of 21, but it is a real and awesome feeling one can experience and appreciate at any age.

*** tonymac04 – your comment touched my heart. Of course ‘all the happiness in the world’ is in our circumstances not the ordinary and conventional. Currently it seems to be only this 7 weeks and 2 days together – which feels like an eternity in paradise - with the possibility of future holidays. But believe me, for us it is “all the happiness in the world”. Take care, Tony! I’ll soon catch up with your writings.

*** Pearldiver – Awwww, what a beautiful thing to say to me: Happiness suits me. Thank you so much for giving me this to ponder.
