Harry Potter: Characters Left Out of the Movies

Madam Malkin

Madam Malkin's, the shop in Diagon Alley, where most Hogwarts students buy their school robes, run by Madam Malkin of course. It was in her shop that Harry met Draco Malfoy for the first time when he went shopping with Hagrid before his first school year. It was also in her shop that Harry, Ron and Hermione encountered Draco again along with his mother, and they had a row resulting in Draco wanting to get his robes somewhere else, a wish his Narcissa Malfoy was only too happy to grant. Madam Malkin, clearly displeased kicked Harry and his friends out as soon as they were finished with their shopping.

Peeves

The poltergeist at Hogwarts. He wreaks havoc wherever he goes and he comes up with a lot of funny lines. The only ones he respects enough to leave alone are Dumbledore and The Bloody Baron, Slytherin's house ghost. The one who is most displeased with Peeves's presence is probably the caretaker, Mr. Filch who is said to have tried to get Dumbledore to kick him out for twenty-five years.

Charlie Weasley

Ron's second-oldest brother. Though mentioned a few times he never actually makes an appearance in the movies though it is hinted that he attended the first task of the triwizard tournament because of the dragons and he also makes an appearance in the Weasley family photo. He makes very few appearances even in the books.

Professor Binns

Hogwarts's only ghost teacher. He is said to have left his body in an armchair and when he rushed off to his next class. He is the most boring teacher Hogwarts has. He teaches history of magic and he was the one who told the students about the chamber of secrets when Hermione asked him to and not Professor McGonagall as the movies show.

Ludo Bagman

An old quidditch player who likes to gamble. He was one of the judges in the triwizard tournament and was suspiciously eager to help Harry win the tournament. It is later revealed that it was due to a bet he had made with some goblins to get out of a debt, though he lost the bet because the goblins claimed Harry and Cedric Diggory were tied for first place. At the quidditch world cup he lost a bet to the Weasley twins and paid them with fake gold.

Dennis Creevey

Colin Creevey's younger brother. Also an admirer of Harry. He was first seen as a first year in the fourth book with Hagrid's coat wrapped around him as he fell into the lake on his way to Hogwarts with the rest of the first year's. He didn't seem to mind though and seemed to think it was cool that he was rescued by the giant squid (which resides in the lake but is not mentioned in the movies).

Mrs. Barty Crouch

Though she never actually makes an appearance and is only talked about she played quite an important role. When she visited her son in Azkaban she gave him polyjuice potion and switched places with him, allowing him to escape. She drank the potion until her death and was buried under her sons name, thus everyone thought he had died when in reality he was locked inside his father's house.

Winky

A house elf first the servant of Barty Crouch but after she is found on the crime scene with a wand in her hand, suspected of having summoned the dark mark she was let go. This left her depressed and she never got over it. She is seen again in the Hogwarts kitchens where she works with Dobby and the other house elves, however she is mostly found sitting in a corner, drunk on butterbeer. She is summoned to Moody's office for the interogation of Barty Crouch jr after he has been revealed as an imposter.

Marietta Edgecombe

A friend of Cho Chang's. She reluctantly joined Dumbledore's Army along with Cho who didn't want to go alone. Even though her mother, who was a ministry worker had forbidden her to go against Umbridge in any way. According to the movies, in which she was never mentioned, Cho was the one who told Umbridge about their secret lessons and this was what ended her growing relationship with Harry. However Marietta was the one who told Umbridge, and she paid the price in a nasty formation of zits all over her face, which she never got rid of. Hermione had enchanted the parchment on which they all signed their names to ensure that if anyone ever told Umbridge about their activities they wouldn't get away with it.

Zacharias Smith

Zacharias Smith was a Hufflepuff boy who joined Dumbledore's Army. He is very obnoxious and rude and was very sceptical of Harry at first before it was proven that Voldemort had indeed returned.

The Muggle Prime Minister

The beginning of the sixth book takes place in the prime minister's office where he is visited by Cornelius Fudge and his successor as minister for magic, Rufus Scrimgour. The minister for magic informs the muggle prime minister of important events that might also concern the muggles e.g. the escape of Sirius Black, the return of Voldemort etc.

Marvolo Gaunt

Voldemort's maternal grandfather. Only seen through the pensieve during one of Harry's lessons with Dumbledore. He was a poor, disgusting old man who clung to the last family heirloms of his Slytherin lineage. He was a pureblood supremasist and hated muggles.

Morphin Gaunt

Marvolo's son and Voldemort's uncle. He was a parselmouth and a known muggle hater. He served three years in Azkaban for the attack on Tom Riddle sr. Voldemort's father. He was later framed by his nephew for the murder of the whole Riddle family and lived out the rest of his life in Azkaban.

Merope Gaunt

Voldemort's mother. She tricked Tom Riddle sr. into drinking a love potion and they got married and she got pregnant. Though he left her soon after and she gave birth in an orphanage and died an hour later. Her last wish was that her son be named Tom Marvolo Riddle after his father and grandfather and that he would grow up to look like his father.

Teddy Lupin

Though mentioned once in the last movie though not by name and once in a deleted scene that isn't enough to tell the movie-watchers who he is. Now that I think about it the movies didn't even really mention that Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin got married. But they did and they had a son named Teddy after Tonk's father Ted. He has the ability to alter his appearance at will just like his mother. He was born not long before his parents died, resulting in him being raised by his grandmother. Harry was named his godfather and it is mentioned in the epilogue that he frequently visited the Potters.
