Having a Beer at Lunch

Updated on August 3, 2016
Cheers from Burningman 2013.
Cheers from Burningman 2013.

Being sober now many a year

seeing paths that were not very clear

my own problems were drunk

in spirits I was sunk

sobriety holds lists I keep near.

A good lesson I've learned over time

don't drink Tequila without the lime

or before your breakfast

each shot will be your last

your down before the afternoon climb.

Don't have random drinks throughout the day

listen in closely to what I say

some point you'll lose control

each drink will take it's toll

you'll wake up in a hospital stay.

Finally, don't have a beer at lunch

your work will not laugh, I have a hunch,

when your breath smells like brew,

"I've only had a few!"

last one standing in your drinking bunch.

Great advice! I read the title in the notification as 'don't have a bear at lunch' and thought it sounded fascinating! Silly me! This warning is a much better idea.

Hi Jamie--this feels light- hearted, but but so very real--hope all is well in your world!

I agree. Alcohol will take it's toll. I liked your rhyming!!

Good advice in this poem, Jamie. As a young man I drank too much but fortunately I learnt from my mistakes. Only have a drink about once a year now, at most.
