He Comes From the Land Down Under: My Friend Jodah

Missy is a unique writer who enjoys inviting her readers into her thoughts through her poetry and other topics of discussion.

My purpose for my poem

Everyone here on Hubpages has been asking for a jolly piece of writing from me since I seem to write out my dark feelings more often than happy ones. I'm not mad at that, I think they are right. I think I need to write happy pieces more often, but the difficulty is, my life has only a few of those, my children being one, and a few select friends I've picked up online from around the world.

With that thought, I just kept thinking about my very best friend here on HP. This man has helped me with confidence and encouraging words since I've been brave enough to post my poems, and a lot of times, he has been the first one to comment on my work. I appreciate his words of wisdom through honesty. He gives me so much inspiration, and it has helped me continue here.

John Hansen (Jodah) has got to be the nicest man I've ever met, along with being an extreme talent himself. I love all he writes, especially his poems. This poem is for you Jodah. Though I will admit, I'm a little nervous to push publish on this one.

As you will see, you are my best Australian mate, so I wanted to theme it around that. I wanted to have fun with this dedication in hopes it would make you smile and others who read it happy as well. I hope you like it. :)

My favorite of Australian songs. :)

He Is Australian and We Love Him!!

You are an Inspirtion to Me and Many

Just a bit of fun in the outback...

My Friend, My Mate!

I thought I would

write a happy note.

I want to write it to

a very nice "bloke".

This is for you my

Aussie friend, the

writing guru whom

I’m a big fan.

I admire so much

your zest for life,

the way you inspire

me and others alike.

You’ve got a friend

in me indeed. You

are the best darn

"mate," and I feel

extremely lucky.

I hope that doesn’t

make you "shove off,"

or go hide in the

bush from this crazy

And I must continue

on and tell you out

loud that you’ve

always made me

feel like the best

writer around.

Because even if

I’ve written

something quite

"wonky," you Still

have plenty of

"Good on you’s"

to uplift me.

You are definitely

a special breed of

Human being; you

have the biggest

heart I’ve ever

I hope this poem

hasn’t "knackered"

you out, from reading

my "jibber" of words I

know nothing about.

However, I wanted to write

You something special

to show, just how much

I love you so…

You are a friend to so

many here on hubpages;

Faith, Frank, and

Aviannovice, Whonunuwho,

and Manatita too.

And, of course,

don't forget, little ol

me. And that's just

calling out a very

select few.

We all share love for our

Cackleberry farmer. The

man who writes wonderful

poetry from the land

down under…

Aussie slang meanings

Bloke- Dude, guy, man

mate- friend or good friend

shove off- leave; depart;

seppo- what Aussies call Americans. It actually means septic tank, but they use it to reference that people of America talk a lot of shit. lol... It's cool!

wonky- unsteady, shaky, poor condition

Good on you- Australians way of saying Good for you. Good job!

knackered- tired or exhausted

jibber- talk a lot and usually about nothing important.

I bought John's eBook of lovely poems, and when I find time, I enjoy flipping the pages and picking out random ones to read that day. I like to do it that way; I don't know why. I think, for me, it's like sticking my hand in the candy jar and randomly seeing what I get. I love them all, and I hope he doesn't mind that I've picked one out to share here. This one touches me deeply. I feel the power of this one.

On The Wings of Eagles © John Hansen

Mighty, mighty eagle

Ruler of the sky,

Give me your powerful wings

So that I may fly.

Soar above the turmoil,

Fly above the strife.

Give me your eagle eyes

So I can look at life.

Whirl and dive within a storm,

Mocking nature's power.

Give me your fearlessness

So nothing makes me cower.

Soaring to a higher realm

No other bird can reach.

Give me your tranquillity

So God's word I can teach.

Rise up on the breath of God,

Close to Heaven's door.

Teach me how to harness power

So I can stop all war.

Do I even have to ask??

Is Jodah a friend of yours too here on HP?

This is a wonderful tribute to John Hansen and yes I also cherish his friendship!

I am sorry I missed reading this earlier and I must congratulate You Missy for this excellent hub.

Sometimes we have many feelings but we are unable to express them. My feelings for John Hansen is no different from yours.

Loved the reference to two great countries in this beautiful write and this is the need of the day for our precious planet--spread the love and feeling of oneness among different countries of this World.

Thank You so much for sharing!

Hi Missy, very well deserved tribute to John. He is one of a kind. Unique to say the least. He's like a good buddy down the street. Always ready to play ball and have fun, express himself and help you along. I'm glad he has impacted you with his writing and friendship. You've spoken a lot of what I would say about him. He's definitely a best friend, here to me.

Oh good! I'm glad I didn't mess up the true Aussie phrases Bronwyn Joy Ellio. I wanted to honor our friend in a special way. Australia sounds like a lovely place. I had a cousin who had the luck to live there for several years; she's back here in Florida now, but she loved it there. I loved all her pictures she captured. There are some beautiful places there in the outback. :) I must tell you, I love your name "Bronwyn," very pretty and unique name.

Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi! Well done on a great tribute to a great Australian Hubber, Missy. Couldn't agree more about Jodah's supporting others.

By the way, you've got Aussie slang down pat!

Well, then I have achieved exactly what I wanted Faith. I have made Jodah proud and everyone else I've made smile. I think it's been my great accomplishment for the day. It was really fun to write. Although I had no idea before I started writing this any of the Aussie slang. lol...

Thank you for your very nice comment! :)

Oh, Missy, you've outdone yourself here with this most delightful Ode to our friend, John aka Jodah here on HubPages!

You have that Aussie slang down and used it perfectly in your wonderful poem. I know he is just gushing about this lovely tribute. There is a great topic under which we can highlight those special hubbers, it is called Spreading HubLove. I love to write under that topic for the very reasons you have done so here.

Beautifully expressed and brings a lot of smiles.

Jodah, I am so happy you liked this. I really wanted to express how important you've become to me here on HP, and as a friend period.

I found the song by that group, and I continued to listen to more of their songs. I am now a fan of "The Seekers."

I was worried about the Aussie slang words. I hoped I used them correctly. I do find you Aussies so entertaining, as I'm sure, you do we Americans. Seppo, lol... I thought that was brilliant!

Honestly, I have been planning to write something for you and about you here, and I just felt this was the right time to do so. I needed to come to a bright spot, and you have been that bright spot for me here at HP.

And, I am so excited to be an honorary Aussie now! That was the best thanks ever! However, I didn't need thanks; this was my thanks to you mate! :)

Missy, I don't know what to say. I am listening to The Seekers sing "I am Australian" as I write this comment. They are one of my all time favourite groups, and Men at Work as well. I am so touched that you wrote this. It is the nicest tribute anyone has ever dedicated to me. Thank you for going to so much trouble to look up the Aussie slang words and to find these wonderful videos.

Thank you for sharing my poem "On the Wings of Eagles" and a link for my book as well. You certainly didn't leave anything out and you really captured the essence of what it's like to be an Australia. I hereby christen you an honorary Aussie. Oh, and I'd never call you a "seppo" :)

Nothing I can say here will really express how touched I am that you put this together and that I have been able to have such an effect on anyone. You are a wonderfully talented writer and when I first read one of your hubs here I felt that you were ready to give up. Well, I couldn't have that could I? Since then you have gone from strength to strength in your writing of hubs...whether they are dark or not, at least you are writing and sharing your thoughts and feelings.

Thank you for making this hub so uplifting and such a pleasure to read, and thank you for being you! p.s. I love the guy with the outback tornado...Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!

You just made my time here at HubPages even more special. Hugs.
