Grief - Loss of a loved one

Updated on June 4, 2015

Grief is like a mighty ocean
In the midst of a raging storm
merciless waves of pain unleashed
No sign of loving reform

It is like a fog of depression
that threatens to never lift.
Akin to the clouds of despair
that sends all joy adrift

The pain threatens to burst
Into torrential flood of tears
A depth of sorrow with no end
or so it seems in your fears

But just as nature has cycles,
So too does your emotional state
Lurking in the shadows of grief
Happiness patiently waits

For the mighty ocean to quiet
and emit new waves of love
To subtly caress your tortured mind
and heal your pain thereof

Clouds of despair will dissipate
Revealing magical rays of peace.
Dense fog then lifts accordingly
Giving grief its final release

Cradled by the memory of love
Etched forever in your heart
although you lost love physically
Loves spirit does not depart

Beautiful! Shows the movement that happens when you don't move in and live in that negative space. As I share at my AA meetings; I am going to get angry, feel resentment, depression etc.; it's part of the human experience. I don't have to move in and live there anymore, I can acknowledge it, accept it and move through it.

I had never heard of Peter Gabriel and checked it out. Beautiful and sad song. Thanks for stopping in and the votes.

Wow... this evokes strong emotions, and it reminds me of Peter Gabriel's beautiful song, "I Grieve." Thanks for this! Voted up and awesome!

This is a wonderful expression of grief at a stage that is most kind to our spirits. The life affirming part and the unending circle of love. Namaste my friend.

Indeed it is FloBe. It often feels that way at the time and I do agree time is the best healer!

Your poem describes this topic wonderfully. I lost someone and wondered if the hurt would ever stop tearing me apart, but over the years it lessened. Now I have just sweet memories of the person and our times together but none of the pain. I guess time is the best healer of grief!
