Heartache Showing on Your Face

Updated on March 31, 2017

Feelings

The corners of your mouth turned down.

The water in your eyes about to fall,

and stream along your cheeks.

Tears about to give your cheeks a kiss!

Oh! How l hate to see you sad like this.

Your lip is trembling, regressing to the child you were.

Trying to prevent what you cannot control.

A sigh., a sob., your breath uneven as you aim for calm.

But sadness does prevail, you cannot halt the flow.

Once your eyes have filled up to the point.... where you have no choice

The tears..... they overflow.

Your heart is breaking, l can see.

From long lost ghosts you cannot break free.

I see your whole body start to shudder

and to shiver.

But the saddest part of all is when l realise

I am looking in the mirror.

Hello young lady. You have written a beautiful poem. Yes, are hearts can be hurt, each and every one of us. You captured the nuance of loneliness well.

We are all in this together and we all support each other.

I love the 'twist in the tail (tale?) at the end! Somehow as we grow older we seem to be more prone to tears for things that a few years ago would have hardly drawn a glance. Sometimes it can be quite disconcerting. I love the way you have written about it - I never would have been brave enough!
