Weathering Depression With God's Grace

Updated on July 23, 2017

Inspirational writings about hope, healing, joy, Christianity, inner-strength, perseverance, and love. Dedicated to my sons!

Someday, soon, we will see everything with a sharp, crystal clear radiance, and then it will all make perfect sense!

— Tamara Yancosky Moore

Weathering depression with God's Grace is very much achievable from my own personal experience. And, when I get distracted by the troubles of the moment, He gently tugs at my heart, reminding me that true peace is found in Him.

I like days of rain- heavy, “horse-galloping" rain! Overcast days, on the other hand, make me feel dissociated and deeply unsettled, as if the day, itself, is in a foreboding stage of not knowing if it wants to actually be full of sun, or have it’s earth beneath it, rained upon. [It is this disturbing, 'in-between stage‘ that distresses me so]!

This 'in-between stage‘, of an overcast day, is when the sky is in its throes of uncertainty and indecisiveness; it seems to not know, precisely, what it will do next. Or, even worse, perhaps it does know exactly what it will do next, but it is in its plotting phase, calculating its next sinister move!

These are the days that taunt, and sneer at me, threatening my very sense of foundation, teetering me up, and then back down, again, continuously, on an emotional seesaw.

Lifted Up!

But then, it always happens, as I am desperately sunken down to one of my lowest moods possible [in respect to mindfulness, of course], I am miraculously lifted up, and reminded by The Holy Spirit of the Glorious Truth that The Almighty Lord is The One in full control, and He does not, at any time, relinquish this control over to this unknown, mysterious 'in-between stage' that seemingly lurks out there, ready to cause doom, and destruction, to my existence!

Bright Sunset

New Dawning!

This Comforting Truth breaks through my thick gloom of depression like a new day's dawning, and victoriously escorts me back into His brilliant light of joy, and happiness, again, in the knowing that I am safe, and secure, in Him- and only in Him!

His Thoughts

Though, at present time, we cannot fathom, or even begin to comprehend the obscured mystery of what His reasons might be for allowing all of the dark influences that plague our lives, and/or the lives of our loved ones, someday soon, we will understand it all with a crystal clear radiance that will be indescribably sharper than even the hint of comprehension that we are capable of ever encompassing, here, in this world. And, upon this newly reborn awakening, we will then declare in our very own words that, "Yes! His thoughts, and His Ways, have always been truly higher than our very own limited, and thickly clouded, thoughts, and ways, and yes, He truly knew what He was doing! How could we have ever doubted?"

Isaiah 55:8,9

New International Version Holy Bible Isaiah 55: 8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. ” declares the Lord.

Some people find overcast days to be very bleak, and depressing. I, myself, would rather have it raining very hard, or be very sunny, but not in-between, as in overcast days. But, whichever the mood of the weather, or my emotions, The Lord gives me strength, joy, and perseverance!

I am honored that you take the time to write such in-depth and beautiful comments, Dream. Also, your comments are very kind and appreciated. Yes, I am glad that we are friends, as well. After many days of rain, it does become that much more joyous to see the rays of the sun peaking beneath the clouds, and finally having its victorious way in shining through in all of its blazing glory.

When I read your hubs I see so much attention to every last detail. The pictures and the videos. I have enough trouble just trying to get my words out. You have such beautiful talents. I am glad we have become friends. It takes me awhile to comment on people's comments. It is if I am writing a story in a story. Then again I go a little to far. I don't know when to say yes I agree and thank you. I feel I have to express myself in some small way. I see the way the light reflects off the clouds. All the rich colors that blend. The light struggling to shine through all the clouds. Out numbered but not out matched. Finally giving a world a peak of wonder and delight. With this I will stop there because I can go on and on. I try to keep my answers simple and to the point. It doesn't always happen. I get so deep in my thoughts as if it is the only thing that matters. I hope you understand. The rain has stopped and no sun yet. I am sure it is five rows back making it's move like a quarterback. Bobbing and weaving looking for not just any spot. The little spot nobody thought. To break through and show you how wonderful the sun can be.

      Hi Sparkster,

Sorry it took me awhile to get back! Anyway, here are some of thoughts on The Old Testament...

The Old Testament has its place, as it talks about The Coming Birth of The Messiah, and also many there are many beautiful writings in the Old Testament, such as how Job overcame his suffering, stood by God, and ended up with more than ever before due to his faithfulness; Ecclesiastes talks about how "Without God, Everything is Meaningless", Psalms helps us to recognize that others suffer the same emotional struggles and despair that we all do; and, Proverbs teaches us very wise life-lessons. In The Old Testament, we find that King David sinned, as we all do, confessed his sins, and continued to be greatly loved by God, as we all are.

There is a lot of violence and bloodshed in The Old Testament is true, but in everything The Lord has His Reasons that we do not understand, right now. This is not a cop-out, but truth. When I read The Bible, I concentrate on The New Testament, but the Old Testament does have its place, especially in bringing about The New Testament. Jesus makes All Things New, Again,

Hi Sparkster! I am not ignoring your comment, I just haven't had the time, yet, to give you an answer for your question without being rushed. When I write you my thoughts on your very good question, I want to take the time to answer it with the sensitivity it deserves. Things have just been a bit busy, at the moment. I will get back to you on this. Thank you for being so patient, and understanding!

Sorry, Jay. I'm still sorta new to this site, and wanted to make sure my last comment to you went out :-)

Absolutely, and the Old Testament appears to be full of just that which appears to be nothing more than scare tactics to keep people fearful and subservient. Now ask yourself, who would want to portray God in such a way? Who did this?

Jay, thank you for your comment. God is Good. All Good Things Come From God. Without God, there would be no such thing as "Good", or "Love". And yes, God is not a God of Confusion, but that of Pure Peace. Thank you so much for reading :-)

What is important is to maintain a high Ideal or God. We should understand that God is Good, always Good and does not suffer from negative human emotions. God has never been Jealous, Vengeful or Wrathful. God is Peaceful, Loving, Accepting and Forgiving.

Bronze Age thinking depicted God as a Warrior, Vengeful and Wrathful. It is time to Progress out of the Bronze Age and realize God is and always has been good. Any story in the Bible which depicts God with negative human emotions is blasphemy.
