Here's the Thing, Girl

Updated on August 23, 2015

Here's the thing, girl

No one said life would be full of ease

Out here in the real world

There are those that you just cannot please

And there are those that will lead you astray

They'll take you down the wrong path

Until you're all used up and gone away

Oh, dear girl, please just do the math

If there are more causing you to doubt who you are

Than those that help you shine

Do not surround yourself with those dying stars

Count only those that allow your light to blind

Let them help you find your own confidence

Let them provide advice that is constructive

Come on, girl, listen to your common sense

They don't care enough to truly know how to love

Here's the thing, shanmarie. It is difficult to provide a serious message in verse. But you did it admirably, m'dear. I particularly like your line: 'Do not surround yourself with those dying stars.' Ain't that the truth?

Here is the thing, my Sweet ..... LOL

Actually, I just want to Love you as you are .. to squeeze you and touch your Spirit, so that you continue to glow in resplendence, like a hanging garden of radiant lamps.

A touching, sincere and heartfelt poem, and one which comes with the Light of Wisdom. I truly love this.

Thank you sincerely, drbj. I had a young girl in mind when I wrote it. Too bad those kinds of lessins can't really be taught.

Here's the thing, girl...I LOVE that title! You sum it up well...the bottom line is stay away from toxic people. PERIOD. Avoid them like the plague. YOU be the Light and you will attract the light. And positive people. I have learned you can never bring negative people up. THEY bring you down.

You said it perfectly, and you are right! I hope whomever you had in mind takes your advice. Life is short, and not one minute should be wasted being around people who dim your light. Blessings, Sparklea

P.S. drbj, I do know how to spell 'lessons'. Hahaha ;) I even found an autocorrect error in the poem that I just fixed. Sigh. . . 'tis not so easy to work from a phone, especially when my clumsy fingers don't text so well.

Thank you, Maria. Prayers are always welcome and prayers for peace are especially useful right now. Lots of changes coming my way. Hugs.

Hi Jodah. I have a difficult time around constant negativity. If able, I look for people that make me feel loved and that make me laugh when I need a boost. They look for the best in others and do allow rhem to shine. Thanks for your wonderful comment.

Thank you, Sparklea! I believe there is a difference between people intentionally being negative, which I would call toxic - those that do not even try to better themselves because they are too busy looking for rhe worst in everyobe else - and someone unintentionally being a weight to someone else. Generally speaking, though, one can tell if someone sincerely cares about another's well being or if the motivations are solely selfish in nature.

Great counsel from girl to girl. "Here's the thing" suggests that you know and you care. The tone is perfect.

You seem to be one smart girl and know who you want to be around. My grandmother use to tell us if we hung with people who limp so will we. You have it right.
