Hidden Chamber of Death (Book 1 in the Moccasin Hollow Mystery Series) by Hawk MacKinney

Hidden Chamber of Death (Book 1 in the Moccasin Hollow Mystery Series) by Hawk MacKinney involves elements of intrigue, murder, deception and suspense which all come together to lead part time private investigator and retired Navy Seal Craige Ingram to the mystery involving random murders and a banking conspiracy.

I enjoyed reading about how Craige worked with a police officer who was also his former Navy friend. The two make a good team and I enjoyed the dynamic between the two of them. The author truly did a good job with making the interactions between the two seem realistic. For me the plot really pulled me in when the two start uncovering the killer and that they discover that killer has psychotic tendencies and that the killers motivation stems from depraved pleasure.

I found it interesting to read about how the Navy SEAL skills transitioned to a murder investigation. The instincts of a SEAL serve Craige Ingram. In fact without them he might have been a dead man.

I enjoyed the author's writing style. Even though Hawk MacKinney does not have an investigator in the family it is quite clear that Hawk MacKinney researched the topic of this book thoroughly because the book reads like it was written by a police officer or perhaps a navy SEAL. I would recommend Hidden Chamber of Death (Book 1 in the Moccasin Hollow Mystery Series) by Hawk MacKinney to those who enjoy serial killer books, murder mysteries, action adventure novels, and a suspenseful feeling.

Interview

1. Do you have any relation to a homicide investigator?

Not on a regular basis. I learn a lot from professional(s)—specific cases in which they eye the bizarre with keen minds and keener paranoia/suspicions of the human animal.

2. What made you decide to write in the mystery genre?

The interplay of characters…ambition coupled with “taking the easy way” which can turn plots inside out and downside up. How the unforeseen can corkscrew things beyond the unexpected.

3. What made you decide on this topic for a book?

Fictional (nonfiction) about the trickery and mischief that proliferates in the histories that made each of us the individuals we are. Having a major in History didn’t hurt one bit…’cause long borders OR the Big Pond doesn’t limit the mischief.

4. Where did you get the plot from?

From my characters AND their interplay with tangled plots AND tangles with each other.

5. Were any of the characters based on/inspired from real people?

Every one of them…one can only delve into motives & obsessions that one experiences &/or observes. People-watching helps a whole bunch.

misty103 - It was a great review, I most definitely liked it. Concise and well presented. Time is something none of us can buy more of. Aside from a ‘free copy’, often in our field of writing it is overlooked/forgotten the time-demands of a ‘read’ plus a ‘review’. My thanx absolutely involves consideration of your time/composing/posting such a well-done & pleasing review. I hope U enjoyed the read. Again…thank U…

misty103 - Thank you for hosting/reviewing Hidden Chamber of Death, Book 1 in the Moccasin Hollow Mystery Series. Book 2 galleys of Westobou Gold is currently in cover design. An earlier release, the historical romance Moccasin Trace, establishes the bloodline(s) of Craige Ingram in the Moccasin Hollow Series. Glad U liked the character diversity of serial protagonist Ingram. Painting pictures with words is fun, when one’s reader(s) are brought into it. Thanx again…your time in reading/reviewing is much appreciated…
