His Elusive Love

Updated on November 9, 2014

She was always escaping his looks

Never noticing the love he had for her

She could never be sure

What he saw in her

So she avoided him

Wherever she went

But his love for her just grew

And he imagined her

As a colorful butterfly

That was so fragile and lovely

He couldn’t capture her

For fear he’d frighten her away

She was there in his dreams

In his thoughts during the day

And he was breathless when she smiled

When she looked his way

But then he saw that she played with love

Like a child with a favorite toy

Never really giving herself to anyone

Delighting that everyone loved her so

She became like an obsession

Always wanting to be near her

And when she filled his whole being

He opened his heart to her

But she only smiled

No reply did she give to him

And so to save himself from more torment

He turned and walked away

He didn’t know how far to go

He wondered if he’d forget her at the end of the world

Where was the end of the world?

Did you just step off and float away?

Even though miles now separated them

He heard her voice

Saw her smile

Thought she was a part of every woman that came his way

He was glad for the nights

When he’d put on the music

That best reminded him of her

And just drifted away

To a place where she’d come to him

Tell him she cared

Tell him she was as much in love with him

Around this time she became very alarmed

When the one man she never toyed with

Was the one that most often came to mind

He filled her very senses

And now love was no longer fun

He’d gone away and she regretted

That she had thought he’d always be around

He filled her dreams

Often times she thought she saw him

It was never so

She was a different woman now

Aching for the one man

She could’ve had

But she’d sent him away

And she was sorry for that day

As her silent tears fell

Those silver tears

Those true feelings

Somehow reached across the miles

And soon he was on his way back

Hoping he was on the right track

But there she was

Just as soon as he stepped from the train

Tears mingled with laughter

His precious butterfly

Would never flutter away now

She was here to stay

Another happy ending. I was afraid she'd be destined for loneliness for toying with men's hearts.
