Hitching A Ride On The Gulf Stream

Updated on June 23, 2011

It’s hitching a ride,

And it’s meeting a dare,

From the summer sun,

And that Gulf Stream air.

June ushers in,

That predominant wind.

That will last long beyond,

The summer’s end.

The Summer Solstice,

Makes longer days,

And coerces man,

To conform to her ways.

A Southwestern wind,

Calls the cyclist out.

And chasing the wind,

Makes a beautiful route.

Chase the fun, the sun.

Rise up to greet,

The light, the searing heat,

And every heart-beat.

When evening comes,

A long day is done,

Ride against the force.

Chase the setting sun.

Ride into the southwest,

Into that Gulf Stream wind,

Then let the Gulf Stream,

Blow you home again.

The cyclist accepts the challenge,

From the wind and the sun.

And just how is,

This test to be run?

Ride as hard and long as you can.

Into that head-wind and setting sun,

Carefully weigh resistance and time.

And when darkness falls, the contest is done.

Measure your distance and speed,

Balance the ride with your resources,

Fuse your body, mind, and soul together,

As you exercise with nature’s forces.

It’s an “out & back”,

The course is not complex,

It’s the body, mind, and soul,

U-turning at the perfect apex.

Now the Gulf Stream Breeze,

Makes a valuable ally,

Putting wings on the pedals,

Helping a cyclist fly.

High revolutions,

Now spin taller gears,

The wind and I fly,

As the sun disappears.

And if I gauge correctly,

The heat, the wind, the sun,

My strength, my mind, my soul,

I will cross my threshold when the day is done.

The day’s curtain closes.

The sun glows as it falls out of sight.

But how do I calculate,

The perfect night?

MickeyDee, I figured you were whizzing around on your bicycle; had to stop by and read about your adventures. That little house reminds me of a children's book I once read, called brilliantly... The Little House, haha.

I think of you as bikers stress me out on Colorado mountain roads! Keep safe and keep rolling, hugs, Barb

The road and the rhyme to clear your mind. That looks like a heck of a ride Mickey Dee. The ‘no mall’ route riding toward the setting sun.
