Holding On To The Seat Of My Pants (Part 3)
The End Is Near
So as the last boy of the night came racing down the narrow walkway
Lined by those bright silver solar lights
He was a cross between a cowboy and a madman like the joker
He was in a hurry his bag was full
He just rounded the corner a little to tight
When he hit one of those small lights with his foot
Smack went the top and crack down the side
The light flickered then it died
The other lights still stayed lit
When he raced up the steps and leaped over the top step
Trick or treat he yelled impatiently
There was no one to answer back
As the door creeked open and then as he went in
Slammed shut !!
I thought I heard more than one voice
Then a muffled sound and then silence
The porch light that has been on all night
Suddenly went out
Did a bulb blow ?
Or was time turning back
The kitchen window was left open
Earlier it had a breeze
Now the stale air started to freeze
I could see the thermometer wedged in the corner of the window
Suddenly the temperature dropped to 5 below
When the neighborhood turned silent
Then one final scream woke up a neighbors dog
She began howling
I could see the the frost cover the walk way with a sheet of thin ice
Then the dog whimpered which was unusual for usually he barks all night
The mist turned into fog and it got thicker and thicker
Soon even the street lights disappeared from sight
Only a few wrappers of candy could be seen
Traveling down the street from an enormous wind
When will Halloween be more than a night of scary adventure
When one woman vanishes right before your eyes and one candy entreprenuer disappears forever
