Holding sunlight in your hand: a song about how to see the positive in this world

Updated on June 19, 2013
Source

What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

With so many negatives in this world, it is time to introduce a bit of sunshine! Here's a little country song about being positive.

Source

Verse 1

We can choose to give wilted grass some water,

Or to let it dry

Choose to make the best of time

Or let it go by

When that grass, turns brown and parched

And you can’t understand

Please remember that you hold

The water in your hand.

Verse 2

If the roots of a tree, they come to rot

And refuse to grow

You can choose to cut it down

Or to let it go.

Dead branches fall to the ground

And you can’t understand

Please remember that you hold

The sunlight in your hand.

Source

Chorus 1

You may not know now how to reach

The great old Rio Grande,

You may not know how to quench your thirst

When you walk upon dry land

You may not see the things you hold

And you cannot understand,

But please remember that you hold

The sunlight in your hand.

Source

Verse 3

If a little child, now he can’t walk

His legs they cannot run,

There are things he still can do

To have plenty of fun,

He can still play with his little toys

He can still pretend,

Though he stumbles, he still holds

The sunlight in his hand.

Source

Verse 4

If a friend, he just won’t hear

Or give you back that hug

You can choose to dwell in that pout

Or to not give up

He behaves in little ways

That you just can’t stand,

But please remember that you hold

The sunlight in your hand.

How do you react when things happen that you do not understand?

See results
Source

Verse 5

If a man now says harsh things

You cannot comprehend,

He now gives you so much grief

And just won’t understand,

He refuses now to see the point

Bothers you no end

Please remember that you hold

The sunlight in your hand.

Source

Chorus

You may not know now how to reach

The great old Rio Grande,

You may not know how to quench your thirst

When you walk upon dry land

You may not see the things you hold

And you cannot understand,

But please remember that you hold

The sunlight in your hand.

Source

Refrain

There are things in this great life

You’ll never understand

But please remember that you hold

The sunlight in your hand.

This was so beautiful and fits in so perfectly with the H.O.W. movement and music themes, too. You truly never cease to amaze me with your poetry. I loved this one really and of course voted way up and shared all over as always!!

The verse about the little boy who can't run really got to me...."he still holds ...The sunlight in his hands." This whole song is touching and reminds us to see the 'sunshine in our hands'. I think this is one of your most beautiful and touching yet!

Voted up, useful, awesome, and beautiful.

A truly beautiful tune that i wish more would sing, Michelle! We DO hold the sunlight in our hands - and it ought to be simple 'human nature' to choose to spread it evenly - and without bias...

You've definitely replaced negativity with positivity - now it's each person's responsibility to turn words into everyday actions...

      Refreshing take on H.O.W. !

Music is the language of the Universe; music bonds nations and people; music will always make successful communication between people possible.

Indeed, what a wonderful world, thank you midget :)

Very powerful song. We always have a choice to lend a helping hand or just keep walking. It's amazing how so many people can just walk by the homeless in New York City but it's even more amazing that others choose to help those that are suffering. Really glad this H.O.W. movement is taking off:) Voted up and shared!

If we all put our minds to it, Healthylife, we all can make a difference. There are lots of people who are blind to suffering because they aren't in that position themselves...and it is sad that it takes a person to actually be in that position to actually empathize. Thanks for sharing!
