Holy Places of Worship (a poem of inspiration)

Updated on July 7, 2015
House of worship...
House of worship...
a sanctuary, place of devotion and of faith...
a sanctuary, place of devotion and of faith...
a reflection of the celestial home...
a reflection of the celestial home...
That of many shapes...its holy construction...
That of many shapes...its holy construction...
A place that we may express that within our hearts..in song or chants,,,
A place that we may express that within our hearts..in song or chants,,,
Where we find a timeless statement of the human spirit...
Where we find a timeless statement of the human spirit...
Where we find the essence of our own spirituality...
Where we find the essence of our own spirituality...

The worship of the holy, found in countries, nations, all about this earth,

Each sacred place, held in reverence, that of marvelous and untold worth.

Synagogues, Mosques, temples...the churches, those of faithful minds,

Cathedrals, tabernacles, shrines...devoted followers, stewardship of all kinds.

Every faithful one, a precious daughter or son, all are worshipers, in unison,

Should be respected, all religions, held in highest esteem, with none to shun.

The furthest corners of the earth, holds revered faiths, those in truth, by its own,

Whether in such prayerful regard, or in thoughtful meditation, as the day is done.

A reflection of each, its shadows spread to reach, in the daily lives, by ways, chosen.

The goodness shared by all, a message, loud, does call, in its harmonic devotion.

Whether in Asia, India, or American climes, songs of kindness, in verses, or rhyme,

As of Africa, of Europe, and in island nations, in orchestrations, all rich, so sublime.

The great protector, a sanctuary, house of worship, the rock, strength of all spirituality,

The celestial home, the heavenly arch...beloved temple, synagogue, of virtual morality.

This grand site, where resides so much trust... to go there, to visit, worship, as we must.

Our provider of life, his to give, in every moment we live, such a worthy testament, so just.

I certainly believe in freedom of religion, however, I don't believe we have to go to church to practice or claim our faith. I choose not to go to church but that doesn't mean I don't have a relationship with God.

I've not been to church for some time. I also have the belief that when two or more are gathered together in Christ, he is with them. Churches are a wonderful tribute to faith around the globe and even though some may not attend services or just to go there...inspire and encourage he true goodness of mankind and serve as a strong fortress of all common human spirits. Thank you for your support.whonu

Such a lovely poem. Like you, whonu, I am not churched but am a Christian. I go to this small church in my village which is open for 24 hours. It is such a lovely, quiet place and I love praying and meditating there, even if it's not my religion. You are right, churches play different roles in the lives of people, but they play valuable roles for sure.
