Holy Wind, Deep Speak by Merwin

Updated on September 13, 2011

Holy Wind, Deep Speak

It comes from where... on its way to where..?

If it does not move it is merely air.

Then, when it moves... does it stir you as it passes?

Yes it musses your hair, it invades your clothing, it kicks up dust and the leaves on the trees appear to dance and applaud its caress, but does its breath speak to your holy parts, your inner parts, your deep person? Do your inner ears hear it speak to you... of more?

If you hear... then your eyes are encouraged to catch up. They run to capture evasive revelations... the concerted movements of grassy waves, the crisp clarity of distant vistas and your heart leaves you to frolic with the wind in the symphony of senses.

It is then that you know that His Holy Wind loves you.

You lean to it, you trust its care and purpose.

You trust it for your safety... for your death, for your life, you know His purpose is loving and true.

He is for you and not against you, He has known you from before the foundations of the earth.

His breath is in the face of your deep.

... And then God said, "Let there be Merwin!" and there was Merwin, and God beheld Merwin and saw that it was good. Then God said, "Let him live, feel, love, learn... Grow into the creation that I have intended for him to be!" And through the years of trials and joys, fears and faith, accomplishments, failures and contemplated observations... He became so!
