Household Names

Updated on July 23, 2013

After buying Skittles and iced tea, Trayvon Martin was on his way home from the STORE.

In less than 10 to 15 minutes, his life didn't exist ANYMORE.

No one will ever know what really happened that NIGHT.

This senseless tragedy has turned into a case of Black & WHITE.

George Zimmerman thought his intentions were GOOD.

He was left shaken by the recent rash of crime in his NEIGHBORHOOD.

A confrontation ensued and Zimmerman suffered injuries to the nose and HEAD.

In self-defense, he shot Trayvon Martin DEAD.

They are known for all the wrong REASONS.

Glorified and immortalized forever through all SEASONS.

Public outrage and the media help to fan the FLAMES.

Turning tragic and disturbed individuals into HOUSEHOLD NAMES.

On an early Friday morning in Connecticut, Adam Lanza murdered his own mother as she slept in BED.

He went to the elementary school, where she formerly taught and shot a classroom full of 1st graders DEAD.

Once the authorities arrived, there was nowhere he could HIDE.

In a final act of cowardice, Lanza committed SUICIDE.

After slaughtering a packed movie theater, James Holmes used every excuse he could FIND.

Claiming to be "The Joker", he succumbed to the evilness of his MIND.

Yet, tactical enough to mastermind a plan for the people he wanted to KILL.

It appears, he has been successful in his announcement that he's mentally ILL.

The actions of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and his older brother are beyond a DISGRACE.

These two Russian immigrants planted bombs at the Boston Marathon RACE.

Not having a care in the world of the lives they would DESTROY.

Sadly, among the fatally wounded was an 8 year old BOY.

They are known for all the wrong REASONS.

Glorified and immortalized forever through all SEASONS.

Public outrage and the media help to fan the FLAMES.

Turning tragic and disturbed individuals into HOUSEHOLD NAMES.

Gah, sorry for taking so long to get back here! I wish I could make the days longer! :D

I know everyone's busy and it's hard to insist anyone watch anything, but it actually made me cry, it was so frustrating. Of course, I watched it shortly after the Sandy Hook school shooting and I was already emotional, but still.

That's awfully sweet of you and never you worry about getting to any of my old hubs, I'm plenty happy to see you at my new ones :D

Hope you've had a great weekend!

      Hi Cat,

I've always known about 'Bowling for Columbine',but have never watched it. I will now. Cat, you can ask me to read any of your hubs. I'm trying to read all of them. As kind and generous as you have been, it'd be my pleasure.

      Man of Strength,

Well, I certainly appreciate that, but I could open a door and if nothing good is inside, people would just walk away. You made people walk inside... you write the hubs that bring the people :D

Anywhoo! If you ever have the time... please, please, watch 'Bowling for Columbine'; if you haven't already seen it... it's a Michael Moore documentary. It's more than ten years old, but I just saw if for the first time a few months ago and I actually cried and was furious throughout it. There is actual footage of the Columbine shooting that made my heart stop beating. It's right on YouTube... but I have the whole movie on my 'People and Guns Kill People...' hub, and I'm not asking you to read the hub... but the movie will really disturb you.

      Hi ziyena,

I agree, they're all a shame. Hopefully something will be learned from all this senselessness.

Thank you for being so honest.

I believe Trayvon and George were both guilty of their own misgivings, an unfortunate misunderstanding, and the Tsarnaev brothers, a terrible shame. Lanza and Holmes both seemed to have a lack of support given their mental health issues ... all of these circumstances might have been prevented if we could just come together and care more for each other ... but then, in the circle of life and death we must all learn these lessons for our spirits to grow. Great Hub

Very strong message here. I an so sickened by the media. They are a business and peace does not profit them. I truly believe that they purposely stir up hostilities. I do believe in freedom of speech, but there needs to be some kind of restraint against the blatant abuse bythe press.

      Voting up my friend.

Cat, thanks so much. It's through you that I have other great writers following me. I cant thank you enough. Yes these are tragic figures. It seems after Colombine, is when a lot of crazies came out the woodwork.

I see this and this is a reality. They are all in the wrong places and situations. The hope is this kind of thing can happen less in any situation. Great article.

      Man of Strength,

Oh boy oh boy... it's amazing how these names can stir up so may emotions each time I read of them. You've done such a wonderful job here and frankly, I think they could've each been a hub of their own because they're all so tragic... but I really like your concept here and I wouldn't do it any other way.

It's tragic, it is; and I know I shed tears over each of these situations and they all leave holes in your heart.

Martin is so right, the media only cares to talk about all the negative things and tragedies. No wonder we all live in fear and border depression. Why don't we ever here about the wonderful and heroic things that happen every day?

Not to take away from this, because I love it and you've done it so well, I'm sharing, pinning, liking, tweeting and voted all kinds of things.

Keep it MOS... you're terrific yourself!

      Hello Martin,

I admire you and your brothers for your efforts. I guess it's true, that if it's not negative or scandalous it gets no attention from the mainstream media at least. Thanks as always for stopping by.

Wow! You said a mouthful. I couldn't agree with you more. This poem that you presented this idea in is wonderful. I love the presentation as much as the message. Quite thought provoking! I agree with Epi, genius work here.

Well my dear friend I have to return to you with the word 'genius' in describing your landmark writing here.

So very thought provoking and I simply love your eclectic style of writing in the pure sense of being a chameleon as you can go from funny writing to serious writing and everything inbetween - bravo to you my esteemed hub colleague and I will light up Facebook with a posting of this most essential read

And while Martin and the masons were saving a pubic school industrial arts program, the press reporters Martin had arranged for were busy covering the murders in SF. Who wants to read the daily good around us?

You neglected to mention politics as a cause of the glorification of tragedy.
