The Mysterious Shoes Part 1

Updated on February 28, 2012

I always wondered what time the sun would replace the moon. It’s like they were taking shifts and neither one or the other anticipated being late. The clouds were mysterious too; they would sit next to each other comfortably enjoying their day. Unconcerned of the sinister world they lived in, but filled with love and laughter.

I never could quite understand why I was drawn to this, but it was an amazing sight. I craved to have more of these moments. Unfortunately, this usually leads to another dead end, and I’m back to my old routine I dreaded so much...

Every day was the same; the constant ringing of the alarm clock, the somewhat confused look on my face as if someone had broken in. Not to mention the ongoing battle between staying in bed or not, and the difficult choice of what jam I should use on my toast.

Traffic was busier than ever, and the air con was playing its mind games again. Opening the window was the best thing to do but the handle was stuck. You would have thought my day couldn't get any worse, silly me for thinking otherwise.

There I was fiddling with the door handle while these little children were walking past smiling and giggling. Maybe it was the lolly pop lady or the small dog wiggling its tail that made them laugh. How I wish we could change places for a day...

The office seemed to be busy as usual; everyone was on a constant high striving to make sales. It was like walking into a pack of wolves scrapping over dinner while I was the vegetarian who stood from a distance. I was the odd one out, and I didn't belong here.

It was getting late and the treacherous rain began to pour down its misery. Each step I took left my socks in a dire state .It's fair to say my shoes were far from being protective... Still fussing about the weather a voice speaks to me and asks for direction to the nearest bus stop. Such a beautiful voice it was, smooth and gentle to my ears. I turn around to see who this voice belongs to and I'm left in awe....

Her hair was golden like the sun, and her eyes were warm and daring. The rain was pouring even more, but that couldn't stop her grace like presence from being removed. I was lost in her realm, and I’d never seen such a being shine so bright.

She smiled while waiting for an answer, I smiled back without one .Such an awkward but yet beautiful moment we shared. I never did believe in love at first sight, but something was happening, something quite magical, and I couldn't put my finger on it. I pointed towards the left and she walked onwards and my heart sank to a new low.

I couldn't let her go, and deep down inside of me there was a small part screaming for her to come back. Every second was going to waste, and the more I prolonged this the more distant she had become.

Time stood still, and all I could do was think of her. She was the one for me, and yet i refused to let her know. I wasn't the strong type, I was weak, and the sweat dripping down my forehead seemed to become more presence.

The bus came and I ran over hoping to get there in time but it was too late. She was gone, and there I was, standing in the middle of the street wondering if she will ever come back.

Finally, getting back to reality the burning tears behind my eyes struggle to be contained. Just sitting there in silence felt like eternity, who would have thought I’d felt so much pain for a person I did not know.

Heading home to a can of beans and measly old bread made me feel numb. I take a minute to breathe, wishing that this horrid day would end quckliy, when I notice another being sitting beside me. I couldn't believe It, It was her. She had come back, and that connection I had once felt was even stronger. She told me to drive and without a second I hit the speed. I wasn't sure where we were going or where we would end up, but I knew from this point onwards my life was about to change......
