Have You Ever Dialed The Wrong Number?

Have you ever dialed the wrong number? I am sure we have all done this from to time. A few weeks ago, my iPhone was stolen. So, I googled the number of Verizon Customer Support and then used my brothers phone to dial. I must of input the wrong number, because I got the "Sorry, wrong number response." Now, you probably think that is funny right? Of course not! My iPhone had just been stolen! I was trying to track it! I was losing time! The world was going to end! Alright, you win. It was rather funny, even at the time.

I remember a funny time when my co-worker was on the receiving end of the line. (Keep in mind, I work at a hotel front desk) The caller asked what time we were open to. Unfortunately we could not really respond in a funny way because it could be a guest. So, my co-worker replied, "Umm... we are opened all day actually" This converstaion went back and forth for a few seconds until my friend finally said that we were a hotel and the person hung up. My co-worker and I laughed hard on that one!

Have you have ever sent a text to the wrong number? I have done so, plenty of times! In fact, just the other day I was trying to send a detailed text to one of my friends regarding plans for the day. The person responded with, "wrong number, please try again." I showed my brother and we had a good laugh.

A year ago, some stranger texted me meaning to text one of their best friends. So, what did I do? I pretended to be that friend. I had a 30 minute conversation with this stranger before letting them in on the secret. I do not remember how I was able to keep it up, but it was rather amusing.

A few years ago I was texting a former girlfriend of mine. Well, at least I thought I was texting my girlfriend. The embarrassing fact was that it was one of those mushy texts. What was even more embarrassing was that it wasn't a stranger. I could have lived with that. At least the stranger will never come in contact with me again. But, unfortunately for me, it did not turn out to be that simple. No, it was not a stranger; It was my mother! Yes, that was an embarrassing moment in my life. My mother used that against me for a while, deservedly so. But, now I can look back and laugh. So, everything turned out fine in the long run.

Now that I have shared some of my funny experiences with dialing or texting wrong numbers, it is your turn.

Do you have any experiences? If so, please share in the comments!

Fun read Josh...We once had a long message left on our Answering Machine about a Surprise party being planned and if WE didn't show, this person "Amy" would never speak to us again. The end of the message was, "you know my Unlisted number, so give a call". Always wondered who the call was meant for...and were they still Friends.

One time I didn't know my phone was on and it recorded someone else's personal conversation on my mother's answering machine. It was so funny but I never told the person I recorded about it. Very funny hub

Wonderful and amusing. The only thing I can say about wrong numbers is that you reminded me of my younger days and the mischief we would do with the good ole white pages. Dial a number and ask what are your measurements. Confused guy answers. We say the casket company will be in touch. lol

Yes, I dialed a wrong number. Weirder... she had the same name as the person I was calling. The whole incidence was so fascinating by the time I hung up on Valerie, I forgot to call Valerie

My boyfriend asked me to send a text to one of our friends. A few seconds after I sent the text, my boyfriend's cell goes off. I sent the text to him on accident since I'm so use to texting him. Not really embarrassing, but he did stare at me with those judging/amused eyes. And it made me realize how little I really text anyone else.

I have a mother son one. My son was texting me and asking about supper and well I know he is heading home but so what and I turn around and there he is! We both scream. He always says howdy now before he walks into the house with just Mama walking around cooling off.

Fun! Storytime! I once received a phone call (wrong number) from a very drunk woman who was trying to call her daughter. She was pleading for my help. I listened to her. She told me how she needed a ride home, but her daughter will be mad at her for being drunk and probably won't pick her up. I debated about hanging up, but I couldn't. I asked for her daughters phone number. She gave it to me. It was no where close to my phone number, which was weird.

Again I debated about not calling her daughter, yet something told me to "Just Do It" so I did. Her daughter was VERY upset and starting pouring her heart out to me! I was like HUH? is this really happening. LOL After 15 minutes I convinced the daughter to pick her mom up and I hung up. Talk about being me being at the right place at the right time. I think. I dunno.

      Enjoyed the video too, hilarious.

My number used to be just one digit different from the funeral palour, it's hard to tell someone who is weeping that they got the wrong number without consoling them first. I once took an order for chinese takeaway too Lol.

Josh...I just talked to Larry and all is well with the budget; it is back to $15,000. Jennifer says hi. LOL

It is bad enough when you dial the wrong number once, but have you ever hung up only to misdial a second time getting the same wrong number? What do you say the second time, "oh, hello again. Just double checking that this is, in fact, the wrong number. Yeppers, it sure is, thanks and it's been nice talkin to ya!"

As usual, very funny, voted up!

Josh, too funny about texting your mother instead of the ex-girfriend! I hope their was nothing risque in your message! I got a text just yesterday saying "who are you with?". I didn't recognize the number, so texted back, "who is this?". They replied, "wrong number". I thought sheesh, someone doesn't trust someone. I'm sure glad it was a wrong number!

Love your limericks, Josh. You're really developing a talent Fairy Godson!

Oh no Josh... mushy text to your mommy! That must have taken a long time to get over ^_^ hehe.... Your limerick was very funny as always!

I remember dialing the wrong number once because my grandma(on dad's side) and mom's names start with the same letter. When my mom answered I was all awkward "oh um I I didn't mean to call you... but how are you anyways?" Not nearly as embarrassing as your stories but it was awkward for me because I had to tell my mom why I was calling my dad's mom and its a sensitive topic.

Voted with all the good stuff!

      LOL, too funny!!!

Recently I received a phone call from a female asking for a "Vinny", I told her she had the wrong number, she accused me of "being the other woman" and started freaking out on me. After a few moments and not able to get a word in edgewise, I did hang up. She called right back and I had voicemail pick up...a few days later, another woman called with the same type of response with the exception I was able to get a word in edgewise and she apologized to me...If I ever find out who this "Vinny" is, he will be hearing some words from me....LOL

Most embarrassing, I meant to send a cute loving text to my husband and somehow I must have hit the wrong contact and ended up going to one of my male friends (former classmate) friend text me back saying "awww 2 sweet. u know I luv u 2 death but ur married and u know I'm gay"...All I can say, yes I was embarrassed, but I am sooo Thankful that of all people on my contact list, it went to him and not one of my other friends...LOL

Josh, loved this one this morning and definitely loved waking up to see you wrote a new limerick. Seriously, I used to dial wrong numbers more often before the age of cell phones and having people's numbers programmed. One of the times in recent years I dialed wrong was because I hit the wrong contact by accident. I was trying to dial my dad, but got my father-in-law instead. Started speaking and then realized it and felt like a moron of course, but thankfully my father-in-law is a really nice guy and no harm done. Very much enjoyed, have voted up, shared and tweeted too!!

Very funny Josh. Always love the limerick and the accompanying story. Loved that you accidentally texted your mother something not so appropriate for your mother to see. I answered the phone once thinking it was my husband because the first name on caller id was his name and said some term of endearment. Boy was I embarrassed when it turned out to be the guy from the car repair place.
