How Does the Moon Shine? (Poem)

Updated on September 15, 2015

All day long it cannot be seen,

But all day long it sings a song,

A contrite and melancholic countenance,

Yet you can watch its joyful dance!

All day long it cannot be seen,

When hurt comes its way,

It shrinks in dismay,

So afraid to be misunderstood,

Who would care anyway?

As long as it remains a moon,

As long as there's the usual tune,

Everything will be alright,

The damsel in gray will continue to fight

But then you ask, "how does it shine?"

For though obscured in the day,

it takes center stage when the time is right,

Was it hiding? or was it just waiting?

Was it only singing?

Or was it also dreaming?

So how does it shine?

Who disciplines it all day long that it shines so bright?

You see, it has a secret that all should know,

That the light of the day is the light of the night,

And the little moon humbly reflects its glow,

No glory of her own, only the glory of the Light does it show!

How does the moon shine?

Ah, now you know

Soli Deo Gloria!

Nicely depicted with deep spiritual meaning.
