What is class?

When people are asked to describe class you will often hear the words elegant and sophisticated. When asked to name someone that they think of as classy they often name Audrey Hepburn. I have to agree with that.

A classy person is often understated, respectful, open minded, confident, well mannered and of course, well dressed. I think that Jacqueline Kennedy also fits into this category. Both of these women seem to personify class.

Class has nothing to do with having a lot of money. It does, however, have everything to do with how you spend it. Talking about how much you have and how much you spend is definitely a sign of someone who is missing class.

A classy person has manners that are 'one size fits all'. In other words they treat everyone the same. They are gracious and polite to their waitress, as well as the homeless person on the corner, and the president of a Fortune 500 company.

They say 'cleanliness is next to Godliness'. For someone who has class this appears to be true. They are clean in their appearance as well as their behavior. In other words, there is nothing questionable about their behavior or their style of dress that anyone can gossip about.

Classy is being a person people look up to and want to be near. The classy person doesn't talk about others, gossip, or slander others. If they have nothing good to say, they simply keep it to themselves.

As my girls were growing up I tried to raise them to have the qualities of a classy person. Someone who is kind, caring, not judgemental, and a person that others would respect and enjoy spending time with. It is a wish that I think most mothers have for their child. The qualities of a classy person are ones that are to strive for.

For many Audrey Hepburn is the epitome of class.
