How To Change Your Routine

Updated on October 20, 2013

Making It Exciting

Another day comes and goes

Most of us have our own routine

Some people have had their routine for years

They get up at the same time

Then like a robot continue on with their day

Day after day

One week leads to the next

Letting the years slip away

Eating lunch at the same time

Unless something happens out of the ordinary

They continue their day like so many days before

Now you know some things seem impossible to change

The time we start work and finish

Going to bed at the same time after watching the same programs on t.v.

What happens if we gave each day just a little more thought

Waking up early because we wanted to

Going out for breakfast or driving to work a different way

This is just one small change

Many more can follow

Watching a different program on t.v. or taking a walk

Eating different foods we would never try

Going to bed early so you get more than enough rest

Each day can be a new celebration

Before you know it you may feel different

Replacing boredom with excitement

The daily hum drum with variety

Think of the endless list of choices to make life an adventure

What happens from here on out

Can make you laugh and surprised

Changing just one day can make a world of difference

annart I have to confess I learn more from the comments that people leave as they give me new insight to my world than I could of ever seen by myself.I find it amazing that we live in an age that we are able to communicate to so many people all over the world at a click of a button. When growing up some forty short years ago the technology didn't exsist.I am truly blessed. When thank you never seems enough all I can do is wish you the best. Have a beautiful day.

I appreciate the congrats; yes I think I've earned my retirement. I'm so busy that I don't know how I had time to work! I probably think I take more time to do things leisurely (and therefore probably better) but I don't think I'm lazy generally (sometimes with my writing tasks though!).

My routine is easy so apart from shopping I don't get stressed. My partner and I make sure we walk around town once a day, just for exercise though occasionally a little shopping is done. Weekly shopping is done by car at the local supermarket; too heavy to walk home with it.

Family takes up a large part of my time (delightful grandchildren!) and travelling is enjoyable too. We have great neighbours so spend some time with them quite often. I don't have to push myself, I just have the luxury of doing things at a suitable pace!

For example, just got back from two days with the grandchildren - I'm going to put my feet up this evening, enjoy a glass of wine and watch some tv. The weekend will include a little gardening as long as the weather holds and some tidying up after a busy week. We'll probably have a few glasses of something (maybe just coffee!) with our neighbours over Saturday/Sunday.

You sound as though you enjoy life and you're obviously busy. Glad you're making the most of it while you still have the energy! Hope you have a good weekend. Ann

annart You have worked a lot of years to get where you are congratulations! I am twenty years away from retirement.I will be excited when that day finally comes. When you are busy time flies. I am trying to enjoy every step of the way. Even though your retired you have to push yourself to get things done. Do you get more lazy because you don't have to be somewhere every day at a certain time? I would love to hear about your day to day routine? The sunshine feels really good. Going out to get the mail and start my morning. Thank you so much for reading and commenting.

Great ideas! I'm lucky that being retired brings its own changes and allows us to do much more in the ways we want. We can get up at a different time (usually later!), eat any time we like, work or play whenever the mood takes us. You're right that a little change can slowly lead to bigger changes and it's so refreshing to get out of the rut, to see life from a different perspective. Hope this inspires more people to make changes when they can. Ann

Thanks for that, DREAM ON. I could probably benefit from tweaking my routine a bit, although my days are always different, running my own business. But I could add somethings that would help in the long run. Very inspirational, up and useful.

Gypsy Rose Lee I often practice a give and take to see what works the best.Only through trial and error can I see what is really important and what can wait. Then only at a later time will I actually know if I made the right decision or not. Then from their I begin the whole process all over again. Thanks for all your comments and interesting thoughts. Have a beautiful night.

I desperately need to change my routine. There are only so many hours in the day and I don't have enough time to do all that is required of me.

I`d like to have variety of things to do everyday and I try not to have the same day like the other day. Doing the same things everyday is so boring. Thanks for sharing.

Kathryn Stratford You are so busy doing so many things I don't think you could ever get in a rut. I get use to doing a certain thing a certain way and it takes me awhile to change. I love when things become easy. I get to do them without thinking. Not always a good thing. Thanks for sharing.

I like variety, and I am very reflective, so I try not to get stuck in a rut. It's an easy thing to slip into, but changing the routine in small ways can make life more meaningful.

Thanks for making me think, my friend. Have a great day!

      Voted up and sharing.

      ~ Kathryn
