Balance and Purpose in Our Personality Traits

Personality traits are those qualities making us uniquely who we are as individuals. The traits are revealed by the ways in which we interact with our environment, particularly other people.

Some traits stand out more than others, depending on the situation within which we find ourselves. But for the most part, there are only a few personality traits that primarily define one person. Those traits usually remain stable over the lifespan, barring mental illness, dementia, or exposure to severe trauma.

If we are introspective, we are aware of our personality traits, as displayed by how we move through our daily lives. When we are honest with ourselves, we are cognizant of how one personality trait may dominate, while another may retract.

In order to maintain well-rounded personalities, we strive to maintain balance in all aspects of our personalities, as we carry out the tasks of life with focus and purpose. The following poem, written in acrostic form, depicts the labor and resolve of this struggle.

A Poem About a Balanced Personality with Purpose

"Balance and Purpose"

Can the calmness of my spirit

Amend the scatter that

Lives in my head, as I

Move through busy schedules of life?

Driving me from task to task

Running like a headless chicken

In several directions at once, priorities

Vying for my attention, I

End up exhausted but

None the less blessed with opportunity

Giving back, in the midst of stress

I find ways to stay focused on the

Very things that tire me most

I feel complete in the end, with

No regrets, as I do all things to the

Glory of God

How to Have a Balanced Personality

Acrostic Poetry Form Defined

An acrostic poem is a uniquely formed piece of creative writing that uses a word or words as the theme of the piece, with one letter in each line spelling out the theme words.

The letters are commonly the first letter of each line. It could also be a middle letter or last letter of each line.

The piece can rhyme or not. It can be an easy or difficult form of poetry to write, depending on the courage and reach of the writer.

Hello there Janis. What a great poem you've written once again. Balance in life is very important to both physical and emotional health. However, at times it can be difficult to properly balance the various things and obligations that we as people must meet. I think that your poem is excellent in the sense that it provides hope to anyone that is trying to strike that balance. Great, great job. Voted up, rated beautiful, and shared.

So glad you liked this one, inspired by hubber PHILLYDREAMER'S challenge to write a poem about how 3 aspects of our personality are related. It resonated with me because I am in constant search of balance with all that I have on my plate. It was fun writing the poem, my first attempt at acrostic form. And I enjoyed putting the hub together. I appreciate your votes, hugs to you for sharing.

Great poem, and I like your explanation of the acrostic. I remember doing those when I was young.

Haha, just now I remembered who wrote the article I was thinking of. But in the meantime, I am glad I checked this one out! You are good at these poems, and I enjoy reading them, as well as reading your thoughts. I am also glad that you haven't deleted any of your hubs. I have heard of so many people doing it, and it makes me a little sad.

      Have a great afternoon!

This is inspiring. I often struggle to find balance and feel like I am thinking 100 thoughts at once. Your poem is a good reminder to take a deep breath and approach things with a calmer mind.
