Fascinating Fiction Characters
Ten Ways To Use Astrology To Write Fascinating Characters
You've got a great plot all lined up. You're excited about your story. You're characters are going on a wonderful adventure. Everything is falling into place except for one essential thing required for great fiction: Fascinating Characters. Or you always start your story off with characters first. But just who are these characters? How do I find Fascinating Characters, someone I can write a great story, novel, poem or song about? I started studying astrology at age thirteen. And I've discovered ten ways non-astrologers can create Fascinating Characters that leap off the page.
You Don't Have To Be An Astrologer
If you can open a used astrology Sun Sign or Key Word Book, you can
structure characters with depth and richness to keep your readers
turning the page. In characterization, you looking for one dominate
trait and two minor traits. You reveal more and more how this one
dominate trait manifest itself over and over again in different ways.
You reveal the minor traits as supplemental information to round out
her character and make her more interesting.
Biographical Character Sheet
This is your basic characterization requirement sheet. Don't worry to much about this right now. Simply read over it quickly to digest.
1. What does your fascinating character want? (Short and Long Term Goals)
2. What does your fascinating character need? (What's driving them internally? To be better than Dad? To relate to everyone?
3. How does your fascinating character go about doing things? (Fast, slow, analytically, gets outside support, conservative)
4. How does your fascinating character think things through? (Take surface guess, tune into feelings, think about fame or attention getting, how to help others)
This character sheet doesn't have to be filled out completely. Even if you do, only about 5 to 10% of this information will make it into your story on the conscious level. For example the Aries Boss character in your story may be an CEO; she showed early skill leading her Girl Scout Troop. The other 90 to 95% of characterization information makes it into your story subconsciously. Simply because you know she collected teddy bears in her youth doesn't mean you have to say it, but as a writer you will make her a CEO with a caring touch somewhere in her nature and activities. Think the iceberg theory. No one tells everyone they meet everything they ever did in life, and yet all those things, some even forgotten make up your personality and outward expression!

Continuum Biographical Astrology Method
Fascinating Characters depend operate on a range or continuum of actions or beliefs. They may fall anywhere along this continuum. Often you will find fascinating characters' great strength become their greatest weakness. This dynamic forces character growth or in order to prevent self-destruction. In the Movie Wall Street and in the story Oedipus Rex, the main character's strength destroys him in the end. Astrology Sun Sign and Key Word books make great use of this Continuum Biographical Dynamic.
Where you see (+) positive qualities, (-) negative qualities (n)
neutral qualities these apply for both styles of that character. This

How do you use this information?
SIMPLY ASKS YOURSELF FOUR QUESTIONS:
1. WHAT DOES CHARACTER A’S DOING HAVE TO DO WITH THEIR RELATIONSHIP?
2. WHAT DOES CHARACTER B’S ACCEPTING HAVE TO DO WITH THEIR RELATIONSHIP?
3. HOW DOES CHARACTER A’S DOING AND CHARACTER B’S ACCEPTING
1) CONFLICT-CLASH 2) ALIGN-MESH 3) MODIFY-CHANGE
4. HOW CAN I CREATE A PARAGRAPH SKETCH DESCRIBING SETTING, CHARACTERS FOR THIS SCENE?

Planet Sign or House Biographical Astrology Method
On my writing website http://cupiderosbooks.com I have Writing Prompts.
CBWP 2009 P3--#10-07.5.09
Plotting using Characterization 1.
I'll make it simple.
You can look at chocolate.
You can eat chocolate.
Which would you rather do?
The external workings of a person, what clothes they have on, their style of clothes, hair length, height, weight are all how Chocolate looks. THAT'S LOOKING AT CHOCOLATE!
The internal workings of a person. Their motivation their unconscious needs. Their quirky ways of doing things, a neat freak, the slob, the first one thing done then another thing person are their methods. How they come to conclusions about a project or person or their life philosophy how they think or evaluate. The long range goals and desires, their conscious drive. THAT'S TASTING CHOCOLATE!
In the end, you won't remember how Chocolate looked. You'll remember how Chocolate actually taste.
Astrology been around for over 6,000 years. Longer probably. Astrology deals in looking at chocolate. Mostly though astrology's fame comes from tasting chocolate!
You have six people on a desert island. They crashed on a plane ride. Think Gillian Island or Lost.
These people all came into being, born on this earth, at different years. Jupiter takes a year to move through one sign. Jupiter takes 12.2 years to complete one chart cycle. Jupiter shows the choices in a person's belief system. Their outward religion. How they like to travel and deal with foreigners.
Person 1: Born while Jupiter moved through Pisces. He says, "I believe in oneness of all things. We're hear for a purpose."
Person 2: Born while Jupiter moved through Aries sees things differently. She says, "I believe in myself. Number 1, Uno."
Person 3: Born while Jupiter moved through Gemini says, "You can all believe what you want, but we need to find some way to spread the word we're lost on this island. Only our minds and logic will get us off this island."
Person 4: Born while Jupiter moved through Capricorn says, "I believe in tradition. It's tradition to elect a leader. Someone organized and practical." Person 4 points to his/her chest, "That'd be me!"
Person 5: Born while Jupiter moved through Aquarius says, "I believe in starting new tradition. The only thing staying the same is lost out there back in civilization."
Person 6: Born while Jupiter moved through Libra says, "I believe in justice and fair play. We're lost on this island; so we might as well make peace and get along."
Complication/Major Problem/s: REFER BACK TO THE FIVE SCENE MEANINGS & STRUCTURE WRITING PROMPT CBWP 2009 P2--#5-05.09.09
First ACT/Scene: Create an event: six people are lost on a deserted island. That part is done for you. Now you describe the island a bit, briefly. Introduce us to the six characters. Make their belief systems the driving force of their characterizations.
Second ACT/Scene: Person 2 discovers a computer in a box. Apparently, it fell out of the plane with a parachute attached.
Third ACT/Scene: Person 4 makes a power play and wants to take over the group. Three people disagree with him and the one group splits off into two groups of three. The second splinter group leaves for another part of the island.
Fourth ACT/Scene: A person in the second group dies. The second splinter group (now only 2 in number) believes Person 4 caused this event. They plan revenge.
Fifth ACT/Scene is how the situation was actually resolved.
Key Word Astrology Biographical Method
Plotting using Characterization 2.
I'll make it simple. You can look at chocolate. You can eat chocolate. Which would you rather do? The external workings of a person, what clothes they have on, their style of clothes, hair length, height, weight are all how Chocolate looks. THAT'S LOOKING AT CHOCOLATE! In the end, you won't remember how Chocolate looked. You'll remember how Chocolate actually taste. Characterization is all about how characters interact with one another. As in the example above, you are forced to ask yourself how Person 1's belief interacts, agrees, conflicts, supports by allowing things to go by with Person 2's or Person 3's or Person 4's or Person 5's or Person 6's beliefs.
That's characterization's entire cause.
1) FIXED SUN SIGNS, MUTUAL SUN SIGNS, CARDINAL SUN SIGNS
In Astrology, you have fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. These people are hard to move once they decide on a course of action.
Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces are mutable signs. These people love to shift about and change their position because of some updated information.
Cardinal signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn love to start things.
So how do the Taurus character in a story and the Capricorn in a story interact:
When the Taurus Character decides she wants a home and children the man Capricorn says not yet. I have to build my Marketing Firm.
The Sagittarius woman wants to travel around the world, but the Leo man says, only if we can travel to the theater's of the world.
The Cancer man wants to start a family, but his Gemini girlfriend doesn't have time as she is a world traveling journalist.
Life is sad when people cannot agree or agree to disagree or go their separate ways. But that's why these character are in your novel, story or poem because something in the world needs exploring.
Generic set up would be:
Character A's need/goal/way of thinking/doing things interacts how
1) Agree 2) Conflict/disagrees or 3) Supports by allowing things to go by
Character B's need/goal/way of thinking/doing things
You can reverse the order of characters too.
2) You could use astrology key words for any skill, talent, point of view or belief about life!
Character A has a skill/talent/point of view or belief about life.
Character B has a skill/talent/point of view or belief about life.
The questions is....
How does Character A's skill/talent/point of view or belief about life--
1) Agree 2) Conflict/disagrees or 3) Supports by allowing things to go by
With Character B's skill/talent/point of view or belief about life.
[Allowing things or supporting things by allowing things is like indulging the other person.]
Neptune is known as the planet of fantasies, illusions, enlightenment, revelation, mystery, The Goddesses and Gods.
Mars is known as the planet of aggression, fighting for survival, first comes first.
Pluto is known as the planet of transformation, destruction, death and intense encounters.
Venus is known as the planet of money earned, resources, fashion, beauty, tangible things.
So Character A's bad childhood (Pluto) conflicts with Character B's perfect (Neptune) childhood
Or Character A's bad childhood (Pluto) conflicts with Character C's Darwinian/evolution (Mars) philosophy
Maybe Character A's bad childhood (Pluto) conflicts with Character D's view money (Venus) solves all problems.
Whatever the case may be, characters are never in the story unless they help reflect another character or the issue or theme or plot event in the screenplay, story or poem. I'm sorry but that your only reason to have any character in fiction.
Could be, Character A's bad childhood (Pluto) supports by allowing for Character E's view children (Uranus) are stupid.
Perhaps, Character A's bad childhood (Pluto) supports by allowing Character F's view life is atheistic/senseless (Uranus).
It doesn't mean Character E or F agree with Character A; they just rather let things be/let the Character A have their anger; their indulgent rant against the world.
For true support, Character A would go to Character G who agrees bad childhoods should not happen.
Or Character A finds a true friend in Character H who cast shame on those who made Character
A's childhood bad.
Astrological Chart Per Character Method
The Astrological Chart Per Character Method is the most promising and complex method.
- Calculate a fictional chart for a Main Character person and order an astrological report for this person Cost about $19.95 for a report.
- Do the same thing for your second Main Character person. Cost about $19.95.
- Take information from the reports Sun Signs, Moon Signs, Planet in Signs and Houses, and Planetary Aspects to create WANTS, NEEDS, WAYS OF DOING, WAYS OF THINKING for your fascinating characters.
For example here are blurbs from a sample chart character:
Sun in the 9th House
This position of the Sun emphasizes a wide range of interests and activities. The ninth house represents religion, philosophy, and long journeys. Providing your chart does not indicate a tendency towards dogma, you view life as a type of journey. It may be a pilgrimage in which one examines a variety of esoteric directions, philosophies and religions, without being tied to a prescribed doctrine. You will probably travel and enjoy intense literature that deals with the philosophical exploration of the meaning of life. You like to get away from home, meet new people, and to travel far-even abroad. Should you opt for it, you can be successful with further education.
You should try to balance your life and avoid becoming too preoccupied with complicated interactions and theories. You may have broad ranging solutions for the ills of society but be unable to find the answers to personal dilemmas. You probably enjoy an occupation that provides the opportunity to cultivate interaction with large groups. One of your many occupations could be working at a travel agency, doing market research or training work. Your inventiveness and enthusiasm enable you to motivate others. If the Sun receives challenging planetary aspects here, you may have a self-centered view of life and feel defeated by circumstance. A well-aspected Sun suggests an open mind willing to consider all points of view. At a higher level, there will be a creative expression with spiritual teaching.
All ready you have a character's career, philosophy or religious beliefs, some hobbies they like. Possible dark side of being self-centered and feeling defeated by circumstances!
Second example from same sample chart character:
N. Node in the 1st House
At times, you just want to be in a relationship, whether or not it's good for you, only to realize that the other person is so dependent on you that you can't do your own thing; we should have learned how to do that back in the 60's! When you finally know who you are as an individual, you'll be ready for a healthy and substantial relationship. This may not happen until after the Saturn return, at age 29, so try to be patient!
A lot of psychological drama here.
Third example from same sample chart character:
Mars in Leo in Trine with Uranus in Pisces
You are well liked, especially because of your originality and plethora of ideas. You are a very willful person which makes it possible for you to lead your life in an energetic way. You are able to recognize the potential of reusable items, and if your job deals with organizing the old work procedure more efficiently, you will stand at the top. To satisfy your career ambition you are able to make use of methods marked by incredible originality. If other aspects support it, you will likely gain a management position.
Perhaps a Maverick CEO or Entertainer!
The question is:
Do you want to spend $40 on an experimental story, novel, poem or song! Probably not.
Although I must tell you, you could get several characterization from even a single astrological computer report. I've good news for you.
