How to Improve Your Article Writing Skills

Updated on June 30, 2010

Improving writing skills is not just about the correction of grammer, the appropiate use of vocubulary etc. It is also about the ability to be able to capture the reader's attention through your content, and how well are you able to keep readers coming back to read your articles again, let's take a look at some of the ways you could improve your writing.

Grammer/Spelling Errors

This is the most basic part to improve your article writing skills, how are you going to expect readers to read your article if your articles are full of grammer/spelling errors and how do you expect that they are going to understand? However, there's always a spell check button which easily ease you in helping you see whether your article contains any mistake, likewise, please make sure that readers could understand your content easily as well.

Using Interesting Pictures That Are Related To The Content

Text alone in an article bores 90% of the readers, it is unable to truly capture the attention of the reader! It is quite important to use one or more pictures in your content in order to interest readers more, this is important if you wish to improve your article writing skills. Of course, you have to use pictures that are related to your article content and not just by using any random picture. With pictures, it just brings more life to the article, and certain pictures could work to summarize the whole of your article just in the picture alone!

Adding More Relevant Articles For Reference

This is very important if you wish to improve your article writing skills. Whatever the article that your reader is viewing might have useful information to him, however, the reader might not have fully found all the information that he/she wanted, thus by providing more relevant articles for reference, they have higher chances of being able to truly find the solution to their problems, and they might just become loyal readers of your articles in the future because of this awesome feature that you provide them with!

Learn to write well!
Learn to write well!

Generate Ideas

Creating new and innovative ideas to improve your writing skills. For example, if you are writing an article about improving google adsense earnings, you could think of some other better ideas to get those earnings instead, because if you do realise, many people have been using the same ideas to write articles on how to improve adsense earnings, surely there are more ways to earn money through google adsense and they are for YOU to go and write articles about it.

The More You Write, The More You Know

The more you write, the more knowledge you will gain from writing, dont you agree? Before writing an article, writers would usually search for information from other articles and through online, and the more you write,, it would increase the more amount of chances that you would go search for information right? Through all this searches, your amount of knowledge will hereby increase and you would be able to create even more interesting content to attract readers. Thus, write more articles when you have the time to do so!

Reading More Books And Articles

Likewise, reading more books, articles and magazines etc help to improve your general knowledge and what's happening around the world. With that increase amount of knowledge, it goes without saying that you have the ability to write more interesting content to attract your readers, if you are really a passionate writer, make it a habit to read the news, and other sources etc.

You're totally right about all-text hubs with no images. It does get kind of boring and my eyes tend to start wandering. Not what writers want lol! It's really easy and gives the eyes a place to rest. Reading huge chunks of text can be tiring after a while.

You also hit the nail right on the head: reading really does help with writing. Actually, I think they're pretty inseparable! Great tips, formatting, and image. Voted up, useful, and interesting! :)

You cover quite a bit of ground in this one short article. I think it is very valuable to see that it can be done as these days that is what is required as very few people have the patience to read a lengthy article.

Reading more is probably most important for me. I tend to feel I must write, write and write some more and then I run out of ideas.

Thanks for the tips on writing better. I really think your advice about a picture that relates to the content is huge online. Let's be honest, we all have "brilliant" things to say in our writing, but it can be the picture that really grabs a reader and tells them to keep reading or at least stay on the page for an extra second or two.

It can be that extra second or two that makes that person decide that they like your writing and subscribe to your blog or hubpages. Or even click and ad. :)

I just "dugg" or "digged" this on digg. See ya.

Very interesting hub Rockstarhobo, I see that you are doing what the late Barry White song suggested, and that is to: "Practice What You Preach" this song was released in 2003.

Well said. I like the way you cover a lot of ground with a very few paragraphs. This makes the writing much easier on the eyes and brain. As such, it is a delight to read instead of a wearisome chore. Excellent work!
