A Step by Step Guide for Writing an Explosive Introduction

The introduction is the first thing that a reader reads. So, if you want to catch a reader for the rest of the article, you must come up with an explosive introduction. Yes! EXPLOSIVE! There are some common mistakes often occurred by the writers. Today, we will discuss about some tips on writing a mind-blowing introduction for your writing. Not only for the writers, but also for part-timers.

When you start with a great introduction, the reader will get a full overview and a curiosity of the post. For freelance writers, this one is really critical. Shall we start then? Buckle up!

Technique #1: Write the Introduction Part After Writing the Main Parts

Though it may sound weird, the reality is that you cannot write a good and well-structured introduction without writing the other parts. An introduction should reflect the whole writing. You must come up with all the ideas given in the later paragraphs. The reader must taste a little bit of the upcoming topics through the introduction. An explosive introduction may contain all the highlighted topics in short forms.

Writing the introduction at the last is also effective for another reason. You can give more time as there is no hurriedness of writing the body parts. It will allow you to show creativity and applying more options to attract the audience.

Be careful about mixing! When you start writing the introduction, don’t mix the theme with the conclusion. The reader will get irritated after reading the conclusion. Carefully avoid any mixing or repeating of the topic. A conclusion usually ends up with a suggestion or prescription. But the introduction should be crunchy and spicy. The more you can decorate and make a structured intro, the audience will love it more.

Technique #2: Creating Paradox

Puzzle the readers. You can combine totally two different things together in the introduction section. For instance, while you are writing something about the importance of the internet, create a puzzle between the contribution of phone and the uses of television in the modern world. The readers will be puzzled and look at the later parts for knowing the solution.

Combining two parts should be done with creativity. To make the paradox for the given example, you can add some sentences on availability of the internet connection in everywhere in the world and this availability is causing the television to be extinct. There are two completely different topics discussed in order to make the introduction a little more interesting. The actual topic was the internet’s importance. Through such way, the reader will enjoy the puzzle and continue reading it until the importance of the internet gets cleared to them.

One thing you must ignore consciously. It will be idiotic to discuss anything irrelevant to the topic. Though you are uplifting two opposite subjects, you should not write anything out of the context. In that manner, the reader will lose the zeal and your article will be totally useless. Make a worthy paradox or puzzle. The article will be outstanding I say.

Technique #3: Ask Questions???

Why not start an article with some questions? From some expert writers, this works amazingly for the readers. After reading the title of your article, the reader will try to know what’s going to happen. For example, if your title is “how to write the conclusion”. You can start discussing on the requirement of a proper conclusion in an article. Add a question like this, “What will you do when you read a strongly written article with a poorly written conclusion?” The reader will get involved in the article and start to find out his thoughts on this question.

An explosive introduction should have such questions. In this manner, the later parts will be interesting and the reader will be engaged with your topic deeply.

Before adding questions to the introduction, I must warn you about overusing it. Otherwise, the reader will be bored and you cannot bring back the concentration. One or two questions are enough to make the introduction attractive. Make sure that the reader gets all the answer after completing the article.

Technique #4: Grow Curiosity

Don’t reveal everything in the introduction. Let the reader find the answers by himself. The most effective way to do so is adding some quotes which you have discussed later in the article. It will make the reader curious. Also, they will beautify the introduction. A writer should not stick with the monotonous type of introduction. Bringing a new taste and creating suspense will make the introduction a lot more explosive.

Curiosity-making is quite a difficult job for the upcoming writers. But you can practice it by reading other high quality articles. A good article shall contain a reader-hooking curious intro.

Also, remember that, while making a curious introduction, do not make it a dramatic one. It may disturb the reader and lose the interest totally. You will lose a reader, though you have a well-structured main part in the later sections of the article.

Technique #5: Create a Map before Writing It

Take a paper and start writing the discussed topics of the article. You should add every keyword on the paper. Your introduction must be free of narrowness. The more you are able to broaden the topic, the more the reader will enter into it.

Sometimes, we forget to plan for doing something. Don’t do the same with an essential thing like introduction. It should be the best part of the article. Include the picture of the writing in a paragraph. A map or diagram helps to draw the keyword flow easily. By adding these consequently, you are actually providing an overview of your amazing article at the very beginning. The reader will get a chance to join with you in this quest.

The opening part of the article bears the upcoming flow of the article. So, you must stay positive and creative. Don’t mislead the readers by adding unnecessary points. Your style of thinking will engage the reader for the later moments.

Technique #6: Change It When Necessary

This applies for perfecting the introduction. Don’t hesitate in changing the article if you find something incredible after finishing it. Read the article twice or thrice to judge either it is going alright with the later parts or not. Change it until you can taste the thrill, interest and curiosity. When an introduction fulfills all of these requirements, it becomes explosive.

You need to play with the readers thought. In doing so, you have to gain enough confidence to start the introduction. You can also give the article to a friend or a common reader. Ask about the feeling he or she gets after starting it. If it needs any change or perfection, you have to use your creativity. Judge an article by its capability of attracting the readers.

Meanwhile, you are trying to write an explosive introduction for your article, try to avoid all the negative examples or quotes that you have included in the main parts. This sort of attitude in writing an introduction drags a reader’s attention.

Technique #7: Create Some Visualization through Writing

Starting the article with a visual imagination is very useful to write an explosive article. It means you are taking your readers to the place of discussion. The reader has to enter into your imaginary world to know what is going to happen next. An explosive introduction means a hook to the reader’s mind.

For instance, if you want to write about the contribution of Facebook in our day to day life, start the introduction with an ancient scenario. “The ancient human race knew socializing within a restriction. Facebook is helping in socializing without such restriction” Adding such element will make the introduction far better and allow the reader to start thinking about the social situation of ancient age. By applying this, you are actually taking the reader into your article. Soon enough, the reader will start to compare the scenarios subconsciously.
Keep the visualization short. If you make it long, the readers may feel it boring and dull. There is a big chance of losing a reader because of a lengthy visual element in the introduction segment.

Technique #8: Add People, Make The Introduction Livelier

The introduction may have a touch of people’s life. Everyone wants to compare their lives with someone else. If you have the ability to start the article by discussing an individual’s lifestyle, the introduction will be a lot more interesting and explosive. An involvement requires mutualism. For example, we can take the previous fact of ancient age socialization. You can write some sentences like this in the introduction section. “Unlike the ancient society, people are connecting easily with each other. People like Graham are now connecting with individuals living in other cities. This is the contribution of Facebook in socialization.”

Avoid detailing while adding individuals. No reader wants to read an explained lifestyle of a person at the very beginning of the article. So, your introduction must have the opening of an individual’s life, not the explained version.

Mistakes That You Must Avoid to Write An Explosive Introduction

Though we have mentioned some mistakes along with the techniques, there are some more. All of these are strictly prohibited for the writers to write a short, specified and attractive introduction.

1. Repeat, Repeat And Repeat: Don’t Ever Do It!

The same topic should not repeat again and again in the introduction segment, the main body and the conclusion. Your introduction has to be freed from such repeated description. You must introduce the reader with the title. Then, add some visual ingredient, quotation, description in the introduction segment regarding the title. Always stick to the relative discussion. When you have properly given an overview of the title, keep the flow going on and move to the main article part. Conclude the article with a suggestion or answering the questions or arising new ones after the final discussion. Revise the article along with your introduction to make the topic clear to the readers.

2. Explanation: Ignore it!

Your reader has to be curious after reading the introduction. Do not spoil the interest by explaining the matter in detail there. You should do it for the next main segment. There should be a mixture of suspense and curiosity. The reader should find the explanation by himself or read the following article for it. If you reveal the magic, there will be no attraction to your article anymore.

For an explosively written introduction, explanation or detailing is not acceptable. You can skip it by highlighting the keynotes and quotes.

3. Using the Same Example

The introduction gets a life after the involvement of an example. But readers can lose the attraction if you use the same example again and again. You can follow a trick to get rid of the same example. Different examples with the same functionality can make the introduction better. The reader will not feel the monotony.

4. Using the Similar Sentence Structure

It mostly depends upon your style of writing. After reading the introduction, a reader will start to justify your quality of writing. If you use the similar sentence structure, the reader will not feel much positive about you. There is a chance of making it dull and monotonous. You should be versatile in using words and sentence. Add every type of sentences.

5. Writing with Difficult and Hard to Understand Words

Of course, you want to attract readers. But to make the article well enough, it is bad to use unnecessarily difficult words. The reader should feel convenient to read it. The more you reach to the heart of your readers, the more you can gain popularity.

Finally, you need to remember the quote of Steve Jobs. “Simplicity is the ultimate Sophistication”. Make the introduction simpler and easier. Add the necessary ingredients and make it spicy. The readers are bound to read the article. When you know how to write the heart of an article, the introduction, the writing will bring more audiences. Have a great day!
