How to never be lost (Are you horrible at directions?)
If you never want to be lost again the best thing to prevent that is planning.
First you want to always know which way is north west east and south.
The sun always sets in the west and rises in the east. Keep a compass near always for cloudy days.
That being said if you don't already know try to learn the directions for each road you drive.
When you do that then if you drive in the unknown you will be able to figure out the directions easier but DO NOT TRY to see where the sun is while driving.
The next thing to do is study where your going. (Road names hwy names USE A MAP)
Also how to navigate on roads you've never been on before. (STREET NAMES ARE ALWAYS PARALLEL WITH THE STREET, DRIVE UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT AND EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED)
IN THE MOMENT ACTIONS
If your are completely lost and don't know how far or near you are from anything known then you should pull over and ask for directions.
If that does not help at all because of your location then pull over and try to figure out which way is north ,east, west, or south.
When you can't figure any of that out you can guess and see if you start going in the right direction.
Drive for 5 minutes in one direction see if anything points you to a known place or if you can at least figure out north east west and south.
Do that for every direction you can go. Double the distance of each direction each time.
If you are low on gas then either risk it or walk but know that if you plan ahead you will never be in this situation.
LOST IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!?!
For long trips you should always be prepared for the unexpected. Here are some basic survival tips (not mine)
The solution is finding out where you came from where you are and where your going.
You should always know what direction your going when your traveling. So if your transportation fails you know what direction it was heading and where it came from then you can estimate where you are.
The quick answer
Get a smart phone with google maps and a car charger. :)
Which can fail you and that is what inspired me to write this article! so maybe read everything above this just in case ;)
