Hubpage Earnings Going Down The Drain!

Updated on August 29, 2013

It seems to be to me lately

That hub pages is going down the drain

Why are so many leaving

Why do I feel like heaving

Because my earnings have gone almost

Completely down the drain!

I'm not the best rhymer in the world

And I sure don't need to be told!

But it's a good way to express

Feelings of happiness and distress!

The good ole pen is mightier than the sword

In more ways than one

So why do we stop having fun

Why have I quit writing poems?

Hmmmm

Not sure of the answer but I know you need a muse!

Earnings going down the drain

Filling hubbers with much pain

Pocket books filled with strain

Crying over and over again

Oh well

A new era has arrived!

The blog

The mighty blog

Is here to stay!

While recipes rule the hub of the day

Important matters are put at bay

Here's a salute to all who stayed or didn't stay!

Have a happy happy day!

Have your earnings changed? Just curious....

See results

Cheers!

I'm back after posting a few articles on Bubblews. I think I still like HubPages better. I've only posted 5 articles and earned a little bit, a very little bit, but I've noticed while connecting with other Bubblews writers that the articles there seem to be very poor quality for the most part - with the exception of a few, like Mary615 who is a good writer. The template at Bubblews is very simple but limited. You can post short or long articles there and you can do it pretty quickly, but the quality of the content I have observed thus far bothers me. I don't know if I want my profile there. Over the past year, HubPages worked hard to improve the quality of the content posted here which, after awhile, improves site quality and earnings. Mary615 and others might have a different experience to share but I don't know. I'm thinking maybe I should come back to HubPages more often and see what happens.

Oddly I'm doing much, much better. My earnings have steadily increased over the past few months. I have no idea why. Since I'm not here for earnings it is a just a matter of curiosity for me but still it is strange. :) I love it at HP and will never leave it for Bubblews.

About 3 years ago, I signed up for HubPages to supplement our household income. At the time, the highest paid hubbers made about $2000 per month. That was my goal. If I could reach that level of income, I could quit my job and travel with my husband (his job requires him to be away a lot). I never made it. Soon after I signed up, I began to accumulate earnings and I was excited about this possibility but then the Google Panda thing hit. I stayed here but it seems that after Google Panda, hubbers began to loose income and leave and it hasn't been the same since. I could be wrong about all that, but that is just my observation. I haven't written an article here since early Spring of this year. I decided to build a blog instead. Now, my goal is to diversify and use different outlets to try to supplement my income. I still believe that if I stick with it, I will finally reach my goal of earning enough money to write full time. Through HubPages, I have met actual writers, published authors who have written books and novels. A couple of them asked me to review their books and that experience was amazing! For the first time, I was reading a book while having a direct line to the author and I enjoyed communicating with her. I enjoyed the opportunity to review a new children's book and another published author has given me a lot of advice and tips. As long as an article remains featured here, I will let it stay. If anything becomes unfeatured, I move it to my blog or another site where it might do better. Suite 101 has gone through major changes as well and I was even locked out for a few months since I was a new writer there. Now, I can write for them again. Anyway, I will spread my work between HubPages, Suite 101, Infobarrel, my blogs, occasionally Demand Media and now Bubblews since I read through these comments and learned of it! I just signed up and will be looking for Mary615 and Kashmire56. Blondey, if you have an account, I will look for you too. Also, I like your poem and I'll share it! Nice to "meet you" here.

      LongTimeMother,

I never had a bad experience either and I think it's cool how you evaluate your earnings progress! I still like it here, though not as active, still make some money! No problem here, just noticed other's disappointments and my decrease in money, I got lots of hubs to work on, thanks!

One thing I've wondered is, the quickest way to save a hub without c and pasting it all if I wanted to close an acct but I don't feel its needed.

      Good perspective, thanks again

This is obviously a transitional period for hp in more ways than one. I feel sorry for people who are disappointed and disillusioned, but I suspect a whole new 'generation' (not in age, but in hp experience) will adapt rather quickly to hp's rules and expectations of writers.

Those who do may well find themselves strongly positioned for the future. I write articles - yep, original works that reflect my real life - and have never been banned, censored or forbidden.

I feel sorry for those writers whose views and income have dropped but we live in a changing world. Of course some writers will find other sites that better meet their needs ... and that's great. That's how it should be. We should all be able to find a space online where we feel comfortable.

For me, however, my income is rising. Certainly not anything to crow about, but a positive trend nonetheless. I quite enjoy seeing which hubs perform - and what kind of results I get from making minor changes to non-performing hubs.

My hubber score drops every time I publish another hub (for reasons that I don't understand) but I don't link my self esteem to my hubber score. lol. Having been a professional writer for many years, I learned long ago the importance of cutting the umbilical cord when I give birth to a new piece of work.

Thanks to everyone who helped hp reach its current status. Good luck in your new ventures. I, for one, will think of you fondly as I continue here at hp.

      :)

If you actually want to write something, in other words, something not simply regurgitated, that has already been written a thousand times. Go somewhere else. Hubpages, and its so called reviewers, hate original works and anything that even smacks of reality, adult humor or situations or remotely resembles literature or real life, is strictly banned, censored and forbidden. This is a trully horrible place for WRITERS

Looking at your poll, I'd say a LOT of writers have abandoned this ship, me included. I won't write here anymore, I have deserted to go to Bubblews!

      Great poem. I'll share.

DJ, I find poems and short stories endearing, and I will continue to write them as well! even if they die out! ha! I see your point though, because they are not even featured or seen now with the new rules unless you feature them (and I think you can only feature six!) I love the people too, Just been so occupied getting better with my health, but it's great to catch up and thankyou for spending some time here!!

Hi my friend Rose, yes at one time you could make some good money here and i did but not any more. I started writing at a new place Aug. 8th and already I'm getting ready for my second pay out. I have to write where i get paid dollars and not pennies . If you want to make some good money join me on Bubblews.com i go by the same name there.

I agree. I am in the process of having my own website built as we speak, and as soon as it is finished, I will begin pulling the majority of my work off of snubpages.

      Good poem, Blondey!

Yes, People are leaving HP like rats leaving a doomed ship.

I am not in it for the money. I enjoy the people who are left here on HP.

This is really not the place for poetry of creative writings.

I wrote a short story, just a few days ago. They sent me notice as to how to make my Hub more attractive so it would draw more google seekers.

I am writing my little heart out, but I will post only short entertaining poems or short stories--which they do not want to see on their pages.

      Good Luck, my friend.

      DJ.

But, I have not found such a site. Every site has to pay their bills.

I hear most of the are much the same.

Yes, it seems what SubRon has commented is the truth. I did not sign up to earn money, but thought, well, I am here so much, might as well, and so I did after a year and two months of being on HP, now 17 months, and it used to be such a fun experience and the scores were reflective of how much time spent, writing, commenting, sharing, hub-hopping, which is a ton of time! Now, with all the new rules, the joy is really not there for many and many have gone on. Back to the point of earning, since I decided to sign up to earn in May of this year, and I think it was, well .... I was better off to just not sign up I believe, and I am thinking of disabling my ads for there is no point and the ads they put on one's hubs rarely seem to match the subject matter of the hub and are very distracting and take away from what is written. Every now and then, they will have an appropriate ad for the subject matter.

I love the community here at HubPages and have met many wonderful writers and friends these past 17 months, and I will always keep an account open to leave just the hubs that I initially started out wanting to share my message and that is of love and hope for a hurting world.

Hope to see you around in other parts of the Internet.

Good poem as to the reality of this day here on the Hub, as they say.

      God bless you sweetie,

      Faith Reaper
