Humour - The importance of Proofreading your Writing

Updated on June 10, 2011

No matter how good our English is, even if we are Managers, Accountants or Lawyers – we must double check whatever we write, before we send it to the recipient or Publish it, if it’s an article. Otherwise, in some cases, it could have devastating effects.

A good example is below; A post-card from a hubby to his wife. (He is away from home, due to work commitments)

How are you Honey?

Hope you are doing fine and taking good care of yourself.

The Hotel Conference is very nice and I am having an excellent time. I wish you were her.

He missed out the letter “e” at the end of the sentence.

Now, try to picture the look on his wife’s face - Thunder???

(Only a few, would realise he made a spelling error.)

Always Proofread.

Writing Quotes...

** Write your first draft with your heart. Re-write with your head. ~ From the movie Finding Forrester

** If I fall asleep with a pen in my hand, don't remove it - I might be writing in my dreams. ~ Terri Guillemets

** The wastebasket is a writer's best friend. ~ Isaac Bashevis Singer

It is really very nice hub that I like and I know I do those kind mistakes. I know also that I do misspelling and grammar error that I think it is right and that is something I know it is because that English is my second language. Thanks for sharing your wise idea.

Love this hub. hilarious. And oh, so true. I proof read several times, and still manage to overlook something. We tend to read our own writing faster than we read someone else's, therefore missing the most common errors. And you are right, that misspelling, or leaving a word out, or adding one that doesn't fit, can change the entire meaning of the sentence, or the article. Thanks for this reminder.

Lady_E: As one who considers himself most proficient in English, in both spelling and grammar, even I can make the stupidest of mistakes in my writings if I do not proof read what i write, and I've been writing for more than 48 years as a non-professional writer.
