I Am A Ball

Updated on July 28, 2017

I am a Beach Ball...

Boing Boing Boing

I am a Beach ball,

Blushing shadowscapes,

Of tomato red and sunshine yellow sprawl

I’m hugged and pushed down,

Fly high like a rocket shot up into the sky,

Or, pushed into the welcoming hands of a child,

I bounce freely on the Surf Club nearby

Hey, but not all are Beach balls,

There is Me,

A different shape and different game,

Many a foot I have felt and smelled carefree

I’m oval

Kicked high, and aimed to dive

Gleefully between the sign posts

You know me as a football jive

Hey, don’t forget me over here,

I know I’m white, small and round,

Many an eye has fixated upon me,

As a smooth long handle swings me outbound

I fly into the heavens for a moment in time,

To fall from Grace into a hole within the ground,

Sighs of relief fall out of the big people’s mouths,

As the quicksand of the bunker was homebound

Many balls are we

Bounced up and down

Thrown far into the ethers

And kicked high for a touchdown

Some of us shine and spin to music

Some of us colour the birthday air

Some of us grunt and groan on the basketball court

Many balls, there are, we declare.

Of Many Colours...

Fun. This reminds me of the 20 questions kind of games or riddles where someone is supposed togurss what the object is by its description. Very light and playful. Perfect for a summer evening.

I love how you describe the actions of a ball perfectly. Especially the beach ball part. This was a fun and entertaining poem. Sometimes we need to just get silly with our writing.
