I COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT...

Updated on November 22, 2012

I could have been great...

Had I been born in another time.

I could have been great...

Had my parents not been mine.

I could have been great...

Had I served another god.

I could have been great...

Had I been given another bod.

I could have been great...

Had I lived in other places.

I could have been great...

Had I known other faces.

I could have been great...

Had I attended an ivy league school.

I could have been great...

Had I not thought marriage was cool.

I could have been great...

Had I not children bore.

I could have been great...

Had my time not been a chore.

I could have been great...

Had I been given the opportunity.

I could have been great...

Had I just chosen immunity.

I could have been great...

Had I been much stronger.

i could have been great...

Had I lived just a little longer.

There are always excuses for the things that never get done, dreams that never come true, and lives that did not turn out the way we imagined; yet...every day arrives with a new opportunity to be more than we were yesterday.

Life is the first gift, love is the second, and understanding the third. Marge Pearcy

Thaunk you RedElf for your kind words. I am glad you enjoyed my simple offering. Some days I have to remind myself of what is truly important.

You have quite a way with words - deceptively simple but calling forth deep thinking. Nicely done.

Thank you MisaLeonessa for reading my poem and your comment. I like what you said about "opportunities to choose..."

Each day we have many opportunities to choose love over fear. There are lots of "valid" reasons to let fear dictate our lives, but we always have options! With a little courage and support, we can look our fears in the face and say "yes" to love.

fresh, homegrown, organic, free range chicken eggs. Yum yum. Two of our hens have just started laying. We have three eggs now. I am so excited and proud of my girls. It's a beginning.

Our friends have chickens and I had one of their eggs last night. It was free and free range.

Good morning attempted. Thank you for the wonderful commit. The sun is topping the pines right now and I have to feed the chickens - I suppose you have to lay some brick. Hope you have a great day.

Hi joe. It's nice to meet you. Glad you liked my little poem. Making excuses for oursleves never works anyway, just keeps us standing still.

      Ana Louis,

Greetings from MAKUSR. That's a nice reminder that we all are unique in our own way. Remember,

Fault lies in us and not in our stars that we are underlings.

      Lots of Love,

      MAKUSR

Thank you joe. for your kind words, and I am glad you liked my little poem. I find that if I count my blessings each morning (I am not always on top of this), I look at my day with a more positive attitude.

I probably need to have a more positive attitude about my typing this morning - there seem to be typos everywhere.:)

Thank you ruffrider for stopping by. I appreciate your comment, and I agree. Staying positive is sometimes hard work, but it makes such a difference in how each day is translated.

May you have a good one.

Good morning attempted. Thanks for the lovely comment. You are right the past is past and we should just get over it and move forward. Make the most of today. speaking of which - the sun is topping the pines right now and I have to feed the chickens. Hope you have a great day.

I love this. It's the list that we all say to ourselves before we leave the house for work. Hopefully, the list does not follow us around all day. We'd all be doomed.

We can't change the past, or the present, but the future is all ours. Put the plans in place and the dreams can come true. This is an excellent, well written poem. More please.

Great advice. We need to be more proactive instead of reactive in our life's. At least I know I do.

Good morning ComfortB. Looks like I am not the only person who hits the keys early. Thanks for visiting. Your are so right, we should make each day be something that will look and feel right tomorrow. I don't always do that. Sometimes I get caught up in the chaos and forget to count my blessings. I'm working on it though.

We are always where God want us to be. The 'could haves' and 'would haves' are the devils way of making us feel unfulfilled and depressed.

Live the best way you can TODAY, and there'll be no regrets.

I visited a friend of mine who has cancer this week and came away feeling so blessed. One comment he made was "Live each day to the full and enjoy life. Each day is a new adventure and we must make the most of those, we are not promised another.
