I Can Smell The The Smoke

Updated on March 23, 2016

Where Is The Fire ?

The news can be misleading

We can be fooled

Our senses can be tricked

Even our hearts broken

Friends we trust can lie

Ads deceive to sell their products

Bosses exaggerate the truth

Some customers try to get something for nothing

People work only for the money

We are surrounded by back stabbing and name calling

Dirty tricks and injustice

What happened to human decency ?

Compassion for our fellow man

True love

Bonds of friendship

Teamwork

It's alive and well

Unfortunately our minds pick up on the bad

Sometimes we focus on what's wrong not what's right

Some easy tricks to make life good again

Think of ten good things that happened today

I could say list all the good things that happened in your life

Then that would give you more stress and pressure

Besides taking up a very long time

You would think I have gone just a little over board

Just maybe completely off my rocker

Let's take baby steps and learn to walk instead of run

We are human beings with about ten thousand thoughts coming straight at us

Each and every day

Who wouldn't get scared

Be a little on edge

That would cause even the best of us

To soil our tidy whiteys

If we remain calm and look at life in a more sensible approach

Not irrational like some people want you to believe

We can always find information to back any point that we want to prove

In the end will we be happy living a life of insecurities and false promises ?

I think we are better off living for greatness

Accepting all our short falls and wrong doings

Only to enjoy the good

So what if there are ten percent of people in the world who do wrong

What about the other ninety percent who do right

If we are always thinking about the bad

We are going to see more bad

If we enjoy the good

We will be too busy with the good to let the bad influence us to any great degree

It all depends on how you want to live your life

Remember you are also the greatest influence on your children's lives

So think long and hard

Could you live your life and your family's ?

With love in your heart and in your soul ?

Earlier I asked if you could list ten good things that happened today

If we could do that every day

Even though we could list a hundred times that

If we really wanted to

We can see how much our life makes a difference

In time looking at the big picture see how our life effects everyone around us

I created what I call the smoke effect

We can smell the smoke for miles

Even when we can't see the fire

As you know smoke on your clothes lasts a long time

It gets in your nose and in your lungs

It covers everything in it's path

It is dark and dirty

I can't think of one good thing to say about smoke

Until now

We create our own smoke from the fire that we start

Where it goes is up to you

It starts now

Nellieanna My father often wanted us to be conscious of the things we did. If not in a room shut the light off. Go in the refrigerator get what you want and get out. If you took to long he use to say your letting all the cool air out. We would put the air conditioners on in the morning then shut them off . We would never leave them on if nobody was in the house. In case of fire and save on electricity. He grew up respecting the value of a dollar. If we wanted something he would say do you really need it ? Most times we didn't get it any way. Today I see kids buy 150.00 sneakers and think nothing of it. Thank you sharing and if we get positive results and encourage other people to do the same do we get more positive results. I think they feel everything is there for their own satisfaction and could careless about the next person. It makes me concerned have we really become that selfish. Have a good night.

I've put so many sayings in hubs and comments. I do best writing in the situation, which is often the inspiration for remembering and writing what comes out! haha. Thanks for appreciating.

Of course, this one's meaning is that if things are gone wrong and one is lost in crying over it, maybe one should cease the tears and get up and DO something positive to relieve it, which might involve some 'work' and sweat.

It probably would mean changing what one was doing (or not doing) which may have caused it or contributed to it, too. There's a saying that if one keeps doing the same things, one will probably keep getting the same results.

Nellieanna If you could put all those sayings in a hub I would love to read and try to seek the meaning behind them. The weather is absolutely gorgeous out. I will come back to more writing later. There is nothing better than a sweet afternoon breeze that carries me away. It electrifies my mind and energizes my body. Thank you so much.

My Dad had a lot of sayings but one I like: "If tears don't help, try sweat."

      Have a great day.

Nellieanna My father use to say don't take life to serious. If you had an ugly puss on your face my mother would say be careful your face is going to freeze like that. I never noticed.I turned into my mother and father. Thank you for reading. may good thoughts come in bunches like flowers and roses. One is never enough.

My mother used to say, "Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you cry alone." That's true!

YES, keep up the good humor! The more well we are to frustrate doctor & morticians and happier we are to frustrate lawyers and prisons, the better off we are!

Nellieanna I had a wonderful Easter and even work surprised me. You have tickled my feet at the right time. I always love a good laugh and the we all know what comes after a laugh like that. A secret desire for more. I think we are programmed for joy. It will not be long now before we see laughter in the streets that has to go somewhere. So it will lead to the bus stops, train stations, schools ,colleges , places of employment and at home. It's my guess the laughter is passed through supermarkets and gas stations. I think we could have a big situation on our hands. Never before in the history of the world have adults laughed so much. Children have always been laughter magnets and now we could have both adults and children laughing uncontrollably for no reason at all. Strange things are happening far and wide across the globe. It has made headlines in the news and the funnies are now on every other page in the newspaper.Doctors are concerned. Overall health of people all over the world has increased by ten percent.Well with the good there is always bad. Lawyers are sad divorce down by fifty seven percent. That is a early morning look into my mind and I am not even awake yet. Thank you so much and I will continue to enjoy all our conversations and thoughts.

Nellieanna You make reading and writing so much fun. I like the fun fact that we can show people how we feel in a way nobody has ever done. Then we let it fly and hopefully somebody will give us a quick read. I love laughing from the inside first and then it travels to so many new avenues. Thank you again.

It is I who should be and am speechless. You're ALWAYS in a good place, or if not, you soon move yourself into one, because you have the best heart and soul which can't stay 'down' and which never, ever blame others for any challenges that come your way. You look UP and find help and peace in it all. I've simply been privileged to get to know who you really are. It's always refreshing. Thank you for being you.

Nellieanna Your hubs are amazing. I love to visit and I admit I get very little done because I am whisked away in a beautiful and different world. One of enchantment and constant love. When I read your comments I get a glimpse of more to come. Thank you so much and I am speechless.

You are a delight and truly, an inspiration. Your fresh-take on all things is so great! If I need a 'pick-me-up', I can always find one reading your work!

Yeah, it's good to avoid making the same old mistakes again and again, though some mistakes seem to take longer to get through our heads. haha. But we usually get another chance to learn better! Life's like that.

Yes, learning is a PROCESS of using and applying the principles we're learning from each experience if we're sensitive to it. Nothing is sadder than being insensitive to our experiences and what they have to teach us.

We ARE constantly new beginners because we really have never been right here, right now before! If we became too jaded or static to notice and realize it, we'd be stuck and mindless. Sadly, a lot of media and other influences seem set on making people stuck and mindless, or at least making them feel and behave as if they were. Being able to live outside or beyond those harmful influences without losing our fresh viewpoint is well worth doing. We have to be able to, as the Bible says, - to be wise as a fox but gentle as a lamb. We don't need to allow outside influences to steer us wrong but we need to be alert, aware and alive to the wonder of life!

Thank you for your well-wishes. I'm thankful for the good health and love which follow me - and for the adventures of living which make it such fun! In many ways, those are all personal choices. We can dwell on the positives or be side-tracked on the negatives, which are always present, too. If we do our best, we have the right to choose to live positively.

Nellieanna In my lifetime I make lots of mistakes. I constantly try to improve and not make the same ones over and over. Sometimes I forget and then I have a good laugh. If I'm lucky I catch myself at the last minute. Then there are those rare times where I have learned and I am trying something different. Once again I'm on new ground and try to think and apply all I know. I like to think like a beginner and see the world with a child's view. Fresh and exciting and new. Thank you for reading and checking up on me. Friends like you are very special in life and I am blessed. May good health and love follow you in all your adventures.

Nellieanna I try to think outside the box and many times I feel like I'm in a big plastic oversized shopping bag ones that you can stuff endless amount of things in and keep going. The bags are strong and they sell them at the supermarket with the store name on them. Some are very colorful with no name on that at all. I love the colors. I try to push the boundaries and release all our thoughts little at a time or all at once. Thank you so much.

The other possible metaphors for your message are, indeed, countless. I'm partial to butterflies and, of course, eagles are magnificent. But the smoke one you've chosen for your thoughts and poem here is uniquely fitting in several ways: It spreads fast, it is effective, it is hard to ignore, and it summons the fire department! haha.

I always love your perspectives on life's everyday challenges and attitudes, dear heart. You 'see through' a lot of the smoke!

Shanmarie If goodness could spread as fast as wild fires we would have a whole new world. Maybe we could find a way and let it fly like Butterflies floating in the air. Then again it could be like an eagle soaring high above or birds that fly from tree to tree. So many possibilities. Thank you for reading and commenting.

Interesting perspective. At first, I thought you were saying we smell the smoke so we're looking for fires that aren't there. But then I realized that the message is the exact opposite. Start our own fires that spread good.
