I Can Tell

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

I can tell if you’re lying,

you look down and blink.

I can tell if you’re dying,

you look up and think.

I can tell if you’re angry,

you look squarely and scowl.

I can tell when you love me,

you regret being sour.

I can tell when you’re coming,

your eyes close and imagine.

I can tell when you’re leaving,

you ignore my attention.

I can tell when you’re gone,

for the peace that I feel.

Is it worth all the pain

and the heartache revealed.

I can tell when I’m numb,

it is when you are here.

All the troubles of life,

you attract, is my fear.

I can tell when I’m finished,

beyond your cruel joke,

because when you return,

I’ll have gone up in smoke.
