I Changed My Mind

Updated on November 18, 2016

I Was Going To Bed

A thought instantly popped in my head

Not so fast

You have to investigate this thought first

O.k. let me have it

As I write my thoughts down they find a quicker way to escape

I thought life isn't that bad after all

I really want to say life is just short of exceptional

This is not true now

If I wait long enough

By then it will be the the future

Sure I am having a variety of issues nipping at my toes

No different than the next door neighbors dog

Thinking he is in control

He looks at me like I'm a big pork chop or a steak on a stick

Sizing me up and down

Maybe even a juicy pot roast

I look right back at him

Trying not to quiver

It's like he can see into my soul

Your not that tough

All I have to do is bark and you'll jump

Alright I might have the first few times you barked

Now I am more prepared

Yes I repeated over and over silently to myself don't jump

Don't jump

I feel like a jumper on a roof

Where the dog is the one saying

Go ahead jump you don't have the guts to

You just want all the attention

Where the police are saying

Grab my hand

Come on down from there you might get hurt

All this flashed in my head in about one second

Now the dog turns his back to me

I feel brave as he is walking away

I am building up my confidence

I am sure

I won this battle

Then the dog turns and s starts to charge right at me

I hold strong

The dog stops inches from me

Thank God I wasn't good in math

I want to say just a fraction from biting my hand

With speed and cat like reflexes

I wish silent prayers to God

Thank you God

For not letting that dog bite me

What I was doing

Even the thoughts from my mind are erased

As quickly as the eraser touches the chalk

The dog once again turns and runs

This time for good

He had me psyched out and vunerable

I felt all my weaknesses surface

Quickier than a bubble in a sink filled with dishes

Next time I am going to be armed

Not with a firearm like most people think

This time with a dog whistle

One that when whistled hurts their ears

Only if he gets aggressive and flaunts it

I am smarter than him

I am going to show him

You want to be friends fine

You want trouble you came to the right place

I am going in my house

I had enough excitement for one day

MsDora I wonder what the dog will remember the next time we meet. Never a dull moment. Thank you for reading and sharing.

Seems like you had an exciting adventure. Good for you that you won by standing your ground while the dog ran away. You first won in your mind.

Jodah I hope it doesn't have the opposite effect and cause the dogs to hate me. The owner called the dogs over and let me pat them with him reassuring them I'm their neighbor. They seemed reserved but more friendly less rambunctious. Thank you for reading and sharing.

This can be a scary experience, Dream On. You can't show a dog you are frightened of it or it will feel superior to you. You did well to stand your ground, but a dog whistle is a good idea for next time. An interesting read.
