I Don't Have Time For God

Updated on September 30, 2011

I Don't Have Time For God

I really don't have time for God

I'm much too busy every day.

There's no time to read the Bible

No time to stop and kneel and pray.

First I dress and read the paper,

Then there's breakfast to prepare

Call Susie to wash and dress

Then I put a ribbon in her hair.

Do the dishes ,make the beds

Then I sweep and scrub the floor,

Wash the clothes, then dress baby

For our daily trip to the store.

Back again and someone calls

And they might think it odd

If I said I had no time to talk,

That I must converse with God.

Meals to get and dishes to do

The house must be spic and span,

Because friends sometimes drop in

Or often some of the family clan..

Then when I finally get to bed

Then I often think with a sigh,

"I've not talked to God this day.".

Now I'm much too tired to try..

So I really don't have time for God

And you can see that it's true.

But then a small voice whispers,

"Someday He'll not have time for you ."

Now let us start all over again

From early morning until night.

You do too many frivolous things

Start again and let's do it right.

First you pray and read the Bible

You must give God His rightful dues,

Then just skip the morning paper

For it's naught but worldly news.

God gave you a home to care for ,

You should keep it clean and neat..

He gave you a precious daughter

And a little baby boy so sweet.

You have much to be thankful for,

You have many gifts from the Lord,

So get down on your knees to Jesus ,

And then study the Precious Word.

When the children all have grown

And they will in a future someday'

They'll carry this all through their life

They had a Mother to kneel and pray..

Then wherever the future takes them

Or wherever they chance to stray,

They will have the Lord to look to

For their mother taught them to pray!

I wrote this many years ago and I am not

sure if there was a reason back of it .A lot

of my poems have a story  back of them but

I don't remember any story behind this one.

Anymore God wakes me up in the middle ot

the night to write sometimes and as most people

know that if they  wait till a more convenient

time to write it will be gone. so you  write

whenever God gives it to me.Thank you for

taking the time to read it   Clara

      North Wind,

You know I have been writing poetry since in the late 40'S and I just wrote for my self ,never really thinking at that time anyone else would be interested in it.I have written poems for people that had deaths or other problems to let them know that I cared but my husband passed away Dec. 1/10 and after that i decided to try to do something with the poems.I had been sending them to friends in emails and they went on and on ,thank you for being a follower I thought maybe they were good enough that some people might want to read them.I am so glad to get the comments on here, It makes me feel good that maybe I can touch some hearts this way Thank you, clara

I once read that a certain preacher said of his schedule the more busy it was the longer he had to stay on his knees to cope with it. He would purposefully rise earlier on a particularly busy day and spend three hours in fellowship with the Lord. Your poems are wonderful!

My mother would have loved this poem, I found a tin full of poems that she had collected from magazines and they were of a similar style to the poem you have published here. Thank you for reminding me of that poetry 'box'.

A good message ... but I tend to think it is as valuable to thank whatever you believe in throughout the day as blessings arise ... it seems easier to keep positive when you give thanks as you go along.

      Voted up!

For those blessed with the reason to write it is message sent from their god. Write and be happy that those who read will be happy too.
