I Don't Understand

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

Who with intent,

would harm a life,

a pointless act of malice,

a purposeless path of hurt,

pain, and an end to innocence.

Who can justify such an act,

without empathy or remorse,

without a soul, just an ego,

bent on gain and preservation,

instilled in thought.

Who could have been in such darkness,

that darkness alone becomes a path,

where morality is lost to will,

and sight is narrowed to an end,

without periphery.

Who can be so bloated with self-righteousness,

that reason leaves the mind in disgust,

and actions are the stuff of the apocalypse,

heinous thoughts brought into being,

by a mind devoid of cost.

I just don't understand,

what it is within me that is lost to this reality,

so harsh and narcissistic these others,

as me of blood and bone,

yet alien in all else.

Who can live such a constrictive life,

where truth is manufactured,

from the spilt blood of collateral damage,

those innocent enough to be slain,

by the hand of a straight and brutal path.

Who can relate to gain when life is quashed,

tortured and disregarded by the soulless,

and where love hides in the shadows,

unable to bloom, or ever whisper,

for fear of waste and decimation.

If only we could accept one another in brotherhood and in compassion, and treat all life with respect. That would create a very different world.

Yes, there is no answer Deonne, we just simply don't understand. At least we have one another and live in hope that people can change for the better. Thanks for your comment. Take care.

You've done it again! I am bubbling over with emotion . I m reminded of the senseless and butal murder of Travis and the killing of Travon. I don't understand how one human being can take another's life. I too ask the question, "Who can justify such an act, without empathy or remorse, without a soul, just an ego." I espouse the concept of oneness. We all are one. One with the Universe, one with each other, one with all animals, one with all plants, and one with all things. As my brother and I are one, I can love him as I love myself. As he is one with the Universe, the Higher Power, Buddha, God, etc, I can love him as I love the Universe, et al. I love your message and do not have an answer. Voted up, beautiful and shared.
