I Found Him

Updated on April 9, 2011

I Found Him

I've looked for God my entire life
from very early on...
I somehow thought Him big and mean
and most of all, withdrawn.
I pictured Him vindictive
in a vengeful sort of way...
and every time I did it wrong
there would be Hell to pay.

Now it has been a journey
and one I'd take again...
an expedition most worthwhile
in enlightening my zen...
I have traveled far and wide,
my search has yet to falter...
but I have sure not found Him
at the foot of any altar.

It was in a simple room,
no fancy glass or stone...
I found God in a meeting hall
in hearts that were His Throne.
In broken hearts that had a need
Pretentious, not a one...
Whose lives had come unraveled
and had found themselves undone.

Folks who had no where to turn
and no one left to care,
who had no need to criticize
or judge, they'd all been there.
Humble souls who had a need
that only God could fill...
who met each day to share their pain,
free of frock or frill.

This is where I found Him
as I was sitting in their midst...
His Presence undeniable,
where real Hope exists.
It is there I learned the truth
and stumbled onto God...
who loves me as I am today,
without any facade.

And all I ever need to do
to find His Help today...
is ask Him with a humble heart
and He will show the way.
It doesn't matter what I am
Or who or what I've done...
If I, but, invite Him in...
My God and I are one.

This is so beautiful. I wish i could find a place like that to worship, no stained windows, only people who have walked that road, leaving judgement for God to render. Thank you.
