I MUST CHOOSE LOVE OR WANDERLUST BY ROBERT HEWETT SR.
THE MOUNTAIN OR THE VALLEY
I love the mountains regal and tall,
The dark green forest and waterfall.
Even the chipmunks that run and play
The antelope that meanders my way.
Slender Aspen in summer and fall
The Cougar’s loud nighttime mating call.
Cold clear streams with Trout fish abundant
Snowcapped mountains, never redundant
My heart races as I climb the slope
My soul is filled with much life and hope.
I love mountains reaching to the sky.
Something different has caught my eye.
Green grass and clover after a rain
Yellow fields of corn bursting with grain
Cattle lowing to be milked and fed
Rooster crowing, get out of your bed
Gentle streams lazily drifting by
Fish jumping high for a dragonfly
Dogs barking at small children at play
The bright green valley begs me to stay.
There is a new force pulling at me
Stronger than any tide of the sea.
Your love enthralls my whole heart and soul
In a way that’s awesome to behold.
Church bells ringing calling me to you
Wedding chapel ready for vows true.
I love the mountains, I hear their call,
In winter snow, spring, summer or fall.
Honeysuckle vines, songbirds singing
Valley life so sweet, good friends mingling.
Mountain Laurel blooming on the hill.
Hummingbirds hover, mockingbirds trill.
Where or where do I want to call home
High on the peak or on the rich loam.
My life in the mountains was rich lore.
My wife in the valley I love more.
