I Release You

Updated on May 15, 2012
carolinemd21 profile image

I am an artist, designer, photographer and writer. See more of my work on cmariearts.

I release you from everything

My heart will not be a burden anymore

You are free to go

I will not hold you captive

I said what I had to say

You quietly listened

There is no change or hope

So now we have to move on

There is nothing keeping us together

In this space and time

You are not debted to me

I am not your prisoner

And you are not mine

So make the choice

What do you want to do

Do you really love me

I want to know

Is it lies that you tell

Why is it after all these years

I still don't know

Are we meant to last

Or will you just be a memory

Like the others

This is torture for me

Is this real or not

Will you stay or

Will you go

This makes no sense to me

Are we soul mates

Here to stay

Forever linked

Or set at bay

Please let me know

Are you leaving

Or destined to stay

      Hi Caroline

Beautiful, heartfelt, heartbreaking and sad. Your poem reminds me of the following quote,

"If you love something set it free,

If it returns, it is yours

If it doesn't, it never was"

      Voted up and away!

Wonderful and so moving too, Caroline. Maybe it is not wanting to push the other away ... but not being able to stay on the path with the person either.

Beautifully sad expressions of longing and the need to find that connection with another soul and the willingness to let them go. Well done.

Voted up and beautiful. I hate it when a relationship doesn't work out and it causes pain. Years ago I fell into awful confusion because the one person I released I didn't realize wanted to stay the most. You expressed this very well and my heart beat along with every word Caroline.

When I feel the pain or joy of the character it's because the poem was well written whether it was their experience or that of another. In other words, your poetry is very well written. Thank you for the emotions.

Caroline, this is such an eloquent and bittersweet expression of emotion and doubt at a crossroads time in a relationship. Releasing someone and oneself is always trying and you've put it into words in such a way as to move me greatly. Thank you for sharing what must have come from a very deep place in you. Voted up, awesome and beautiful!

Beautiful photo—this poem is touching yet sad. When a relationship has reached this point, it’s time to break the connection and move on. You can’t find happiness with another while you are feeling rejection because of love lost. Close the door to the past relationship, go out into the world, and don’t look back. Change is good.

      Voted up.

Concise and to the point. Let your Karma speak loud for you. There is never an easy answer, coming and going is frequent it seems in love affairs and most matters of the heart. If it is not meant to be then let him flutter away to another place, he is not yours to capture.

Set free and release is the best way. If he is meant to return and claim you and him as a forever thing, he will flutter back into your arms. Will you be there to receive him? Destiny only knows. Hugs

Caroline, yes it's very touching. Sometimes we find ourselves at crossroads, and only time can tell and show what can become of what we already have. I think listening to your inner voice is always a good thing to do.
