I Want To Buy Some Time Please ?

Updated on September 27, 2010

If Only It Was True

A little boy with a clean cut haircut reaches up to the high counter

Lifts his head up barely high enough to see

Excuse me miss

I was hoping you could help me

What is it I can do for a cute little man as you

I need something and I can't find it on any shelf

We have so many things here

I am so sure we can help you find what you need

I am looking for .....

What is it young man ?

Like a clock

We have all kinds of clocks to hang on the wall

Everything from big to really small

No I need to find the time

In that case we have beautiful watches here in the case

From every different color and shape

They are all really nice

But I am just looking for time

I'm sorry I don't know what you mean?

Well my father is always busy

He is always coming or going

I think he works in a mall

He always says people are looking to buy

But they look and and look

He chats with them and says what if the old one doesn't work

Then what would  you do?

Here is a chance to buy and the price is lower too

I have never seen him at his job

When I get older he will take me there with him

He said it is for older people and they don't want kids around

I know in a mall the people behind the counter are like you

But they are always complaining about kids playing and fooling around

They always ask them to leave

I don't know why if they want them to buy

I think I would talk to them

Like you are with me

You are so nice

You are different

Than most people with the angry look

Who looked like someone ate their cereal

I need to find more time

So my mom can relax

My mom is always washing and cooking and so many chores to do

Every time I ask her to sit down

She says if I sit I will get nothing done

Aren't we suppose to sit and rest

So we can get the energy to get things done

I know when I am playing outside

My mom says stop

Take a break

Sit down and catch your breath

I do it

But not for long and I am ready to go and go

If I have time for my dad

He could stay home and spend time with mom

Instead of saying

This is my big day

All the people are out shopping

It is Labor Day

I'm not sure what that means

I think it is when women have lots of babies

So maybe they all come out to shop

To buy for their babies

Life is pretty confusing sometimes

I don't know why my father says

I can get a new car

When this one drives just fine

He said someone returned it and it has low milege

If someone returned it why would we want it

I have never seen cars returned to the mall

But maybe they park them all out front with the other ones

So you can have lots to pick from

The lady behind the counter knew she couldn't help the little boy find what he really wanted

She walked over to the shiny glass case and found a pretty shiny womens watch

With a place to put a picture and it came with a man s watch also

She said I could put my picture there and both would be able to look at me often

They could make time for me with this new watch

I am not sure how it works

Maybe the time will tick slower

BUt wouldn't that be a bad watch ?

The lady behind the counter said you don't have to worry

They will love it better than any watch they have ever had

She said the price was great

It was free for the boy with a smile on his face

She wrapped it up too with a pretty bow

Just in time

I heard my mother calling my name

She told me not to go far

I didn't

She had to get something fixed

The battery died and it had to be replaced

I think it was that old car we bought that was suppose to be good

The man said it would take ten minutes

My mother told me to wait here I am old enough

She had to go and it couldn't wait

Your son was just talking to me

I hope he didn't bother you

No he actually made my sales increase

and was a great inpiration

For any sales clerk to see

A boy who likes to shop and came to find something wonderful for his mom and dad

Don't forget your box

The little boy said thank you in a soft polite voice

She walked away with a little boy in her hand

Not knowing her life has been for ever changed

With a boy who loves life

and has a great imagination to see the world beautifully

FloBe To often in life we think everyone we see and love will be there for our whole lives. It is only when they are gone we notice we wished we did so much more.If we listen to children and people talk instead of just hearing them we can have a fuller life. Thanks for your insight.

Your poem spoke to me that too often we just don't take the time to really care about the people that are closest to us...we are too busy to appreciate what we have NOW and are always striving for what we think we'll want in the future...ah, to be young and have a simple view of the world!

Joy56 We are younger than many.Lets learn how to age gracefully with age. With age comes knowledge.Thank you what a beautiful rose as your profile.Neillieanna Yes the leaves are changing beautiful colors and they are falling everywhere. Many people curse them.I love to see them drift in the air.We often have many acorns falling from the trees.Sometimes you get lucky and they hit the car or even your head.To me it is seeing the wonders of nature with every look. Thanks so much for all you have done.

DO -- I'll guess you ARE a little boy in a man's body! I can relate to that but from the opposite gender.

Either way, grownup or child, my toes usually do twitch with excitement! But yesterday, as you wished - they were especially twitchy with Autumn excitement. It may be in full swing where you are - it was when I visited New England one year about this time in October - in fact there was snow on the ground in New Hampshire. But here in Dallas, it's remained like summer up till a day or so ago, with a bit cooler temperature so I could catch that first "feel" of fall. I love it!

Too wonderful for words - but every word is a delight. I literally laughed out loud, my eyes full of joyous tears. I don't know when I've read anything which felt so good. Kids do have trouble getting grown-up "facts" straight - maybe that says more about grown-up facts' inconsistencies and anomalies than about kids' perceptions! What a shame that kids usually must conform to the inconsistencies and anomalies in order to 'fit in' and get with the others!

I discovered by being aware that my son thought meatloaf was just a very tender cut of beef! I think I explained what it is but felt I might have been doing his future wife a disservice! Otherwise, just think of how inexpensively she could have delighted his palate. haha. I remember some funny misconceptions I had as a kid too. Kids try to piece together the images and words they see and hear and make sense of them. But their inexperience both confuses the process but also clarifies the real underlying truths in many things, like the little boy looking for TIME to give his parents. That's so sweet it just chokes me up!! And such wisdom he showed - like about buying a used car. haha just precious!

Dim Flaxenwick I notice children have something that adults loose. The energy to go non stop every day.If I can have the energy they have I can get so much more done. They don't stop when they are having fun. They have turned their world into there own personal playground.I attempt to do the dame thing.I try to surround myself with the youth for they have so much to give and share. But sadly they are clueless.I think as they get older they pick up some bad habits of adults and are slowly transformed into giving up on their dreams and their best asset their imagination.Thanks.

Wonderful. We could all try seeing life through the eyes of a child now and then. This really was beautiful. Thank you

Absolutly wonderful. Thank you for this look at life through a child's eyes, and a darling child at that.
