"I Would Like To Think..." by Eric Wayne Flynn
"I Would Like To Think..."
I would like to think there is a place in your heart
A warm soft spot that has never been touched
Residing behind a wall of ice
I would like to think, I could melt it with a fiery brush of my lips
Too bold, too soon?
Instead of a kiss I'll arrange words to make you swoon
So, rather than melt the wall, you'll throw over a ladder
A permit to climb to the top and look into your secret garden
Watching from this safe distance, I spy
A sight for sore eyes, to never fall again, I swore I
I would like to think, you swore, the same lie
Protesting to the stars and pounding on your pillow
Whispering to Cupid to save his arrows for another fool
I would like to think I could make you believe again
Not in love
Not in lust
Sunny days by the ocean
A picnic at the park
Catching fireflies after dark...
Notions lost from a broken heart
I would like to think if we were ever to meet again eye to eye
We would create a spark to be shared in our stare
My hands would run through your hair
Down to your flush cheeks
Our wild hearts would
Kindred spirits with no need to speak
I would like to think...I think too much...
Sweet thoughts oft fool me, sweet thoughts oft not be true
Still, I would like to think you would catch me, if I fell in love with you
