Casual observations........

Updated on March 9, 2015

Sometimes the best responses lay unspoken

I stepped in from the winter blizzard
the restaurant - store was warm yet uninviting
in the corner the proprietors look up
from the drunken distractions
of a couple of rowdies as if to say
save us

Lately I seem to only feel the contempt of old
fashioned man towards the younger fools
but then as I observe bad behavior
I don't even have
the excuse of youthful ignorance
Hell're not even
that young

As one of them makes some wise comment about
his observation of my entrance
I walk by
I give them one collective moment of eye contact
without the gift of a smile
or words
he turns back to the
others and they look down
at their hands

Maybe it pays to be the stronger silent
type after all ..... I think as I
pay for my things and look one last
time at the wise ass and turn
away without "friending"
and wonder
have I taught you anything

I drive away smiling ...........

I like to think of you as the strong, poetic and silent type.

I find human nature so keenly interesting , It's the native American way of responding to people that I enjoy testing . Silence and a direct gaze , people just don't know how to take it , I do hate bullies though ! Thank you all - hope everyone's surviving winter !

When they can't take your measure, it gives them pause. You might be a pushover, but then again, you might be dangerous, and most loud-mouthed bullies are actually cowards.

      This is a keeper!

Hope they learned what you taught with your silence. Both the experience and the report of it is interesting.
