If I Could Start all Over Again -- Poem about Life

Updated on May 4, 2014
Source

If I could start all over again

nothing would be the same

I certainly would ride this train of life

Trying to do everything right this time

If I could start all over again

Would talk to my dad... that now is gone

Would take more time with mom

And pay attention to her say

If I could start all over again

Would try this time to figure out God

Who at times seems to be odd

trying to decode his creation

by seeing myself growing and

experience life's temptations

If I could start all over again

Would spend more time with

my little sister

who thought I was her hero

when I used to leave for school

who felt that deep sorrow

When our Cockier died and went over the moon

If I could start all over again

I would look for that bike of mine

that I rode down the shore

taking places where I 've never been before

If I could start all over again

would play again with school pals

no evil thoughts and free

to go here and there

friends the taught me how to have fun out of nothing

making my life more than just exciting

If I could start all over again

Would go back to visit my dearest Granny

Who was there to listen my silly stories

always tightening up my belt

and crying of joy for me... getting taller

If I could start all over again

would search for that girl that didn't mind me

and cause my first heart's pain

would certainly ask her, why she was into older dudes

in blue uniforms, ready to take off.

If I could start all over again

would ask God while praying

Why dad left us with little to survive

why we had to suffer

If I could start all over again

would watch God's creation from a child's eyes

Going right above my roof and look upon that starry sky

Telescope, Yankees cap and mom's apple pie

If I could start all over again

Would write poems for my mom

who was my guidance

my role model in life

dropping a note by her bedside

and silently running away in disguise

If I could start all over again

Would try to understand life as it was

crazy at times, but worth the fun

If I could start all over again

I would be ready to cope with

fear, anger and surprises that life

has been dosing rentlessly to us

If I could start all over again

I would finish reading this inspiration to mom

sure, she will be smiling while fixing my lunch

checking if my clothes were ironed as dad's

If I could start all over again

would definetly follow that butterfly

into heavy rain

If I could start all over again

would thank this creator for giving me this mind

lighting this candlelght in my room

scared at time of uncertain darkness

that came with the night

If I could start all over again

I would do it again

wiping my own tears and thanking God

my life was not in vain....

Hi Eddy. Well, it is what it is. You just sit in front of your screen and start typing. The words just come to us, "like a piece of chocolate," you never know how we are going to end the poem. Thanks for reading our work dear friend.

Thanks LaThing, We are thankful for our own lives and health. You are such a wonderful friend, and mom!

@Hi Made, your comments are appreciated, and you are certainly right. We all can relate to a certain point. Life is a journey of give and take... before we find that we have to depart, like any one else.

@Tenkay, you are fine. Where you are, we think. We all have experienced feelings of joy and pain. The more we concentrate in learning from experience, the more we appreciate our existence. Thanks for giving... or leaving such a heartfelt opinion.

Thanks MsLOFTON! You are growing within our community we see. Glad to see you taking your time in reading us.

@Tammy, you missed this piece because, you joined us around November. Probably we wrote this poem around the end of September. Your opinion and thoughts are as strong as ours. We wish you the best within your family and your personal goals.

@ Victoria, embracing the now and don't thinking about the past as much as our brain allows us, can make a big difference in a sucessful existence. By the way... your words inspired a hub... and the rest became history!

Beautiful, just profound! Sometime I wonder if we were ever allowed to go back, would we change things? I for one, don't want to, with all the heart aches, and pain in life, what came out of it is beautiful! Our Creator knows what is best for us, and just like you, I am greatful!

Beautiful, voting up with a smile!

Dear Lord, I read this poem about 7 months ago. I knew I had, because I recognized the photo, and the hub KEPT POPPING UP! so I guess I was meant to read this lovely hub again. I still have those feelings of wishing I had embraced things a little bit more at the time, but then, will we feel the same about today in a few years, too? The mind is so complicated. Maybe we should just embrace the present moment. Glad I read this again!

Don't know how I missed this one. This is very powerful and thought provoking. It is a beautiful poem for Mother's day and every day. My list of do-overs would be long but would not include the desire to make more money, work harder.. just love stronger, wiser, and make better decisions on exactly who is worthy of that. Outstanding and touching.

This is a stinger....and I feel the burn. So many nights, alone in the darkness, repeating that phrase a hundred times....."if I could start all over again...." Powerful, Lord....too much to handle unprepared. Thanks for the knock on the noggin.

If I could start all over again

    I'd be a better mom

    Knowing always when they're hurting

    Help turn their lives around

If I could start all over again

    I'd be a better wife

Sharing all my pain and joy

With the person I promised life

If I could start all over again

I would change a million things

    But mostly what I wish

Is to not regret a thing

    - Thank you Lord for the inspiration to not live with regrets.

Very inspirational hub indeed. If I could start all over again....yes there would be a lot of new starts for me as well. Yet it's clear our destiny is laid out before us, we are all time travelers. Our journey never ends, our lives will always be filled with lots of start over's again. I am happy that I was given a chance to start over time and time again...peace my brother.

    Epigramman,

Well, What can I say. There are so many things left undone in our past. Like Sunny day said it, we wish we could go back and see someone gone, walk by our side..see them grow and growing with them. Pictures can help a little. One morning we could sit and watch our photo album...things cone to us immediatly. Sure is my own experience, but If we could start all over again...

....nice to see Sunnie Day here - she is such a grand and gracious lady - and this is one of the most moving poetic hymns I have ever read at the Hub. I am sure we could all write our own variations on If I could start all over again - that is why your readers can relate to this wonderful piece of writing so well because although it may be personal to you we often see ourselves in other people too ..... yes this is one of my favorites by you.

I believe we are losing something so special with all the technology and that is the emotional connection, looking someone in the eye,Poor Mr. Rogers would be replaced with animated creatures....I found the way he changed his shoes interesting, he hardly looked at his feet and got the shoes on the right feet, sang, and tied them too..I mean is that awesome?..I don't have good days like that..but then that was Mr. Rogers..a simple man with a big heart...I did see a blooper once that was funny..he was putting up a tent and he cussed as it tumbled down..so he is human as well..Have a good night...

Awww Sunny, you made me get emotional too. And I understand you perfectly. The miracle of becoming a mom/dad. The experiences that we go through. Our first day at school. Our first kiss...I mean, Can you hear me now? Little things that Technology wants to erase from our lives. Do you think Mr. Rogers woould be of use today? For these new generation of geeky minds? Would you? Could you? I would write pages just to make you feel at home Sunny day and thanks for your words. Meant a lot to me. God bless!

This brought some tears tonight..it was such a sweet heartfelt hub..I too would like some do overs and some I would like to do over and over..like my babies first smile, or the first time I saw the ocean, the joy of my first dance and kiss..The first time God made himself real to me..Thank you for making me think of all these things..

The photo is precious. And, the ideas are priceless. All of us live and learn. And, those who love us understand that in some things, learning comes a bit late, but at least we've not missed it completely. :)

    Victoria,

thanks so much...did you know that when I wrote this poem..life went through my mind in seconds? the words are there to be read...a roller coaster of emotions..If only right? But tomorrow is another day..and we will depart one day...richer or poorer. All we can do is be good and feel ..or try to feel better by seeing a brother or a sister in a different angle.

Very insightful. Life is about should have..would haves and could haves and this poem really speaks to the regrets of the past. It also says that there is hope for the future. Good read!

If only, if only....I read this in light of my former stepdad dying. I had a grandmother who used to ask me when I could spend the night with her from college...and run around...and I never did. Regrets, regrets. But life goes on, and I don't guess that we can blame ourselves, b/c that's what people say. we get busy in our own lives and we can't keep up with everybody. Still, if we could only go back and start over..would we or could we???? Voted this beautiful poem all kinds of up!
