IN THE HOURS I PRAY: A POEM

Updated on October 21, 2013

Father. I seek thee in quiet hours

When the melancholy beauty touches me

Father, I seek thy reassuring powers

That helps me see and let things be

When, within the depths of my heart

A question lies, carefully hidden

And I distance myself and come apart

To seek solitude as thou has bidden

So I may find your presence in the fading eve

The deep set golden that recedes away

And capture the sombre reveries and believe

That solace is found in the hours I pray

To hear unspoken promises in every last glitter

Of yonder sun, like the sparks of your own eyes

And perhaps, you also wait though it is sweet and bitter

For the questions I put forth, that hidden, lies

Like a child, with upturned eyes, I face

And trusting, cup my hands to thee

Kneeling, seeking to find your grace

And closing my eyes till I am allowed to see

And all the quietness becomes a gentle hush

And the tides of my heart calm themselves

As you tenderly rouse me to the world’s rush

My heart treasures the light where it often delves

Very lovely poem. Prayer life is so essential, personal and intimate. It is a beautiful thing, as is your poem.

      Up and more and sharing

      God bless, Faith Reaper

Beautiful. I like especially 'closing my eyes till I am allowed to see'. The quietness, reflection and 'offering up' of one's own thoughts come through strongly here.
