Ice Trees (Poetry by GalaxyRat)

Updated on July 9, 2017

GalaxyRat is fond of rats and writing. And dark poetry. She knows that people don't like all these things together... but who cares?

Ice trees, fragile with glass.

Ice trees, melting away fast.

Enjoy their beauty while it lasts.

Ice trees sway with a graceful intention,

Ice trees don't need any prevention

They just swing in all directions.

Snow clad willows dance in time to the wind,

The pines shake off their ice onto their kin,

No longer dead brown like wrens.

All of them are united as one as ice trees,

Even though the ice may cause them harm to their leaves,

They wear it proud, ignoring what they need.

Ice on trees is like hiding emotions,

You have no choice to go through the motions,

Because no one will let you shake off the snow.

I like the idea of ice trees, especially right now with the heat. The dark side of me thought about one of the icicles breaking off and impaling someone (which actually happens sometimes, usually as people walk under buildings with hugs icicles!).

I could hear the theme song to Edward Scissorhands Ice Dance composed by Danny Elfman in my head when I was reading this. What a great and beautiful poem.
